State of South Carolina is Hiring a Mental Health Professional I (988 Call Center Trainer) Near Charleston, SC

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina. 
 
This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center-Admin Building, 2125 Charlie Hall Blvd, Charleston, SC 29414.
This clinician will be responsible for training call takers, text and chat and follow up responsibilities for staff answering incoming crisis calls and providing telephonic crisis intervention service! text and chat or follow up for the 988 Call Center. Training will be person centered and done in a culturally competent manner and cover interactions with callers and documentation. Some call taking, text and chat, and follow up will be required to stay abreast of the nuts and bolts of all positions and be a back up to the other Call Center staff.
 
Responsibilities for this Mental Health Professional I include but are not limited to:
  • Trains call takers, text and chat, and follow up staff to performs the duties of the 988 Call Center response for staff working in Charleston and Greenville. Participates in Vibrant trainings, workshops, meetings, etc. and works closely with the admin/data person to troubleshoot issues associated with staff training and follow through.
  •  Screens, assesses, triages and provides telephonic crisis intervention/de-escalation to individuals in crisis. Identify concerns with mental illness, developmental disabilities and/or substance use and refer to the appropriate resource. Utilizes assessment information and community resources to provide information and/or linkage and referral to services. This position may also include text and chat 988 response.
  • Patches call to appropriate clinical staff in a timely manner based on geographic location and patient needs. Completes appropriate documentation in accordance with established policies, procedures and QA guidelines of the agency. Provides some follow up care as outlined in the 988 protocols and training.
State Minimum Requirements: 
A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field. 
Agency (Facility) Minimum Requirements:
A Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited program, university, or college in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling or other behavioral discipline deemed equivalent by SCDMH.
Note:  If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position.Experience in the crisis continuum of care a plus, especially if in a 988 Call Center.
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plusThis is an essential position and may require some afterhours work to help fill in when staff are out and/or position could be designed for afterhours or weekends. Shifts will vary as this position trains for all shifts and it is a 24-hour program. Some travel may be required for training purposes.
