This posting is a multi-level posting. If positions are not filled by qualified applicants at the Transportation Generalist level, the positions will be filled at the Transportation Associate level.
The Transportation Associate and Transportation Generalist are the first two levels in our Transportation Specialist Series. These positions are important in our work as they help maintain our roads and are crucial in our efforts to keep friends, family and our communities traveling safely. In the summer, we focus on maintenance and repair, where in the winter, we focus on snow and ice removal, as well as other maintenance.
The Transportation Associate is a trainee position with a one-year probationary period. In this role we train you on our practices and to advance to a Transportation Generalist. Below are some examples of typical work for both the Transportation Associate and Transportation Generalist roles. The actual day to day work will be assigned based on the project or immediate need in support of keeping our families, friends and communities traveling safely through all weather and seasonal conditions. A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.

NOTE:The incumbent will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.New employees must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetylmorphine (6-AM).
Hours of work
This is a full-time year-round position, with seasonal schedules (summer hours & winter hours). Hours may include overtime or various shifts depending on emergency situations. Summer hours are Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (4-10’s). Winter hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Hours of work may include days, nights, weekends and holidays as required by weather and maintenance conditions.
Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to assigned work locations within one hour of being called.

Have and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction (or the ability to obtain within 6 months from dates of hire).

Exam Part 2:
Candidates that are made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. The required passing score for the Math portion is a level 5 or higher and the Reading portion is a level 5 or higher. (Acceptance is contingent on passing a math and reading assessment test).
A pre-placement physical examination is required for this position. Current employees who have successfully bid or are moving into specific job classifications will be required to complete the pre-employment physical exam. The scope of the physical exam will be limited to whether the employee can safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, in compliance with state and federal law.
