Summary

While performing duties related to St. Clair Hospital or the Mt. Lebanon Surgical Center of St. Clair Hospital, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing patient care in accordance with established standards and skill competency.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Must possess a current license or a temporary practice permit to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
2. Appropriate clinical experience with a thorough knowledge of the scientific principles of nursing and professional nursing standards, developed skill in delivering nursing care, and the ability to adapt of individual needs.
3. A fundamental understanding of personal computers and familiarity with the Windows operating system.
4. The ability to successfully complete a competency-based orientation and annual competency testing of skills and/or knowledge necessary to provide care to specific patient populations.
5. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

1. One to three years of clinical experience in a related field.
2. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

5. Maintains the dignity and confidentiality of patients and acts as their advocate. Respects patients’ rights to privacy, cultural, spiritual, and belief differences, and the right to choice.
6. Practices in accordance with established Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards, policies and procedures related to patient care, quality improvement, safety, infection control, and environment.
7. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and members of the health team.
8. Maintains a positive image with all customers by responding to emergency cases and on-call status within appropriate time frame, exercising appropriate telephone manners, and exhibiting courteousness and helpfulness.
9. Maintains clinical competency through on-the-job training and attending in-service training classes and continuing education.
10. Coordinates the activities related to safely positioning surgical patients.
11. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of aseptic principles and techniques to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
