St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, a small and nurturing PK-8 school in Uptown New Orleans and the oldest Episcopal School in the city, is seeking a part-time Aftercare Teacher for afternoons during the remainder of the current school year (2023-2024) and for the 2024-2025 school year. St. Andrew’s offers a high quality aftercare supervision and enrichment program for all students during all days in which the school is in session. Aftercare runs from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. daily.
The Aftercare Teacher works alongside the Director of Aftercare to provide supervised care, a snack, free play, and quiet time for completing homework assignments. Care is provided both inside school facilities and, when the weather is comfortable, outside on the playground.
A key element of the St. Andrew’s curriculum is teaching citizenship and respect for others. In addition, St. Andrew’s believes that communication and cooperation with our parents is essential to the success of any learning environment, and we expect our teachers to develop meaningful and productive relationships with our students’ families.
The ideal candidate for this position will have at least two years of teaching or supervisory experience, familiarity with the independent school system, experience with (or appreciation of) a small school setting, balanced appreciation for traditions along with openness to new ideas, and a respect for a faith-based Episcopal education. The school seeks a diverse group of teaching candidates for this position and desires a faculty and staff with a broad range of geographic, racial, socioeconomic, religious, and life-experience backgrounds.
