JOB DESCRIPTION: Spring Grove Grounds Part-Time Horticulture Crew
Classification: Non-Exempt
Summary/Objective
The position of Spring Grove Grounds Horticulture Crew is established to perform support and assistance to the grounds team activities at Spring Grove.
Essential Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Spring Grove Grounds Horticulture Crew and should not be considered an all-inclusive list.
- Communication both verbal and written
- Interface with customers in-person
- Operate grounds equipment
- Maintenance of grounds areas
Primary Duties:
Landscape/Horticultural – Spring Grove
- Perform installation of plant materials
- Prune, weed, mulch and irrigate
- Perform follow-up maintenance on installations
- Make flower placements and removals in the grounds
- Install and maintain floral displays
- Brush Chipping and Assisting Spring Grove Arborist as needed
Mowing and String Trimming – Spring Grove
- Mow all turf and ground cover
- Perform string trimming function including vertical edging of markers and curbs
Chemical Applications – Spring Grove
- Apply growth regulators on ground cover and around markers
- Apply fungicide, insecticide and herbicide correctly and safely
- Apply fertilization
- Responsible for lake management
General Maintenance – Spring Grove
- Perform the policing of the grounds for trash and general clean up
- Responsible for general cleanup of equipment
- Responsible for cleanup and maintenance on buildings
- Perform snow removal tasks as required
- Certain positions will require working at different heights, on ladders and lifts
Foundation and Marker Setting – Spring Grove
- Excavate sites
- Pour foundations
- Set markers
- Raise sunken markers
- Perform the follow up sodding function
Turf – Spring Grove
- Perform general maintenance on the turf such as: Sodding, seeding, trenching, fertilization and irrigation
- Maintain the irrigation lines
Interment/Entombment – Spring Grove
- Understand and perform customer rapport, able to meet/greet services
- Understand and execute the opening and closing process for grounds, lawn crypts, mausoleum and niches
- Able to prepare burial sites
- Able to establish final grade of all burial sites including filling and pounding

Work Environment
This position operates outdoors in all weather conditions. The work can be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and reaching.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; bending; kneeling; lifting; and reaching with hands and arms. Required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience, preferably in grounds maintenance, green industry, or construction.
- Plant identification knowledge preferred but not required.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must have ability to work independently and have good problem-solving skills.
- Displays a “Customer First” attitude.
