Payroll Specialist

Hourly Rate: $27.00 to $30.00

Specialized Pavement Marking, Inc. is a growing and thriving company that was founded in 1997 in Tualatin, Oregon. SPM rapidly became one of the premier highway striping companies in the Northwest by focusing on production capability, effectiveness, and quality. The company has grown to over 200 employees while working in the Northwest market; completing major city, state, and federal contracts in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, Alaska, and Canada.

Our corporate headquarters are just outside Portland in Tualatin, Oregon, and we have a regional office just outside of Seattle in Auburn, Washington. In addition, we have satellite offices in Juneau & Palmer, Alaska.

We have a staff of union and non-union employees and operate with multiple CBAs.

We have an immediate opening and need for a dependable and detailed Payroll Specialist with drive, energy, and organizational skills who is highly detail-oriented and has excellent customer service skills to service internal and external stakeholders.

About the position

Payroll Specialist: Under the direct supervision of the Payroll Manager, this non-exempt hourly position provides administrative support to the Payroll department. Interacts with a diverse group of external and internal customers at all levels of the organization. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize workload.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with weekly payroll processing for 40 union and non-union employees
  • Responsible for assisting with all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s payroll processing objectives
  • Certified Payroll report preparation and tracking
  • Keying, batching, and auditing employee time-sheets
  • Process employee changes in the payroll system including earnings additions/deductions & changes
  • Calculate manual payroll for terminations, special payments, and garnishments as required
  • Apprenticeship tracking and reporting
  • Perform select human resources duties that may include onboarding, I-9 verification, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification

Experience:

  • 2 years of L&I reporting for weekly certified payroll
  • 2 years of LCP Tracker reporting
  • Multi-State Payroll Experience
  • Working with Unions under a CBA
  • Experience utilizing Vista (preferred)

Qualifications:

  • This position requires an extremely detail-orientated person with knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations
  • Viable candidates for this position will show a high level of demonstrated professionalism, strong communication and listening skills
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices required
  • Have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, handle demanding time constraints, and provide timely input with great attention to detail

Education Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sitting, keyboard typing and 10-key, use of telephone and computer monitor, walking, filing, and stairs
  • This position is fully onsite and is not eligible for telework
