    Primary Purpose:

    South San Antonio teachers are passionate innovators.     Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:
      Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
      Master degree in content required (preferred)
      Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
      Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
      Current licensure, certification or registration by a state or nationally recognized accrediting agency as a professional practitioner in one or more approved occupations for which instruction is offered
      Valid certification in the following: Generalist EC-6 or EC-4
      Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
      Experience and demonstrated ability in working with children in a teaching, counseling or other applicable capacity.
      Prior experience in an urban, high-poverty and/or turnaround school strongly preferred.
      Knowledge of Google Apps for Education (preferred)
      Commitment to accountability, professional development for instructors, and student success;
      Exhibited leadership in working with parents, students, and the community.
      Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills.
      Bilingual preferred (but not required).
      Ability to effectively interpret student/school data, including but not limited to academic, attendance, discipline and survey data, and identify areas strength, need and growth;
      Strong interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share research-based instructional approaches and provide advice, mentoring, and coaching.
      Strong organizational skills.
      Ability to engage students in innovative lessons and manage their behavior.
      Knowledge of core academic subject assigned and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
      Unwavering belief that all students can succeed.
      Provide feedback and problem solving with teachers to strengthen relationships and classroom culture.
      Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
    Experience:
      At least one year student teaching or approved internship

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

      Establish and maintain a positive and safe school culture.
      Supervise the consistent and fair administration of school policies regarding student conduct and discipline.
      Oversee the development and implementation of student supports and interventions using restorative justice practices.
      Maintain systems for collecting and tracking data on school culture metrics, including discipline and attendance.
      Play an active role in working with parents and the community.
      Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
      Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
      Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
      Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and the differentiated needs of students.
      Conduct common formative assessments of student growth and use results to plan instructional lessons and activities.
      Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
      Work with other teachers and staff to determine lesson objectives, demonstration of learning and engaging instructional methods according to district requirements.
      Attend weekly professional learning community meetings with grade level/subject matter
      Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
    Classroom Management and Organization
      Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
      Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
      Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
      Assist in selection of instructional materials that will best support high quality instruction and improve student outcomes.
    Communication
      Establish and maintain open communication with parents to ensure they are aware of their student’s progress at all times.
      Establish and maintain open communication with students, principals, teachers and other staff.
      Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
      Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
    Professional Growth and Development
      Participate in staff development activities to improve student outcomes.
      Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
      Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
      Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    Supervisory Responsibilities:
      Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

    Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

      Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)] Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
      Posture: Prolonged standing/walking; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
      Motion: Frequent walking, Sensory ability needs - significant; hearing, near vision, peripheral vision color discrimination, depth perception
      Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment
      Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise, frequent cold and heat
      Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
