About Sloomoo Institute: 

Sloomoo Institute is a rapidly growing interactive experience based on play, #satisfying through handmade slime, tapping into the senses, and ASMR. We are an art-inspired, immersive haven of color, design and joy. Launched in NYC in late October of 2019, Sloomoo Institute has been an enormous success, attracting over 1 million guests and billions of media impressions. We have four locations and a fifth opening in LA in the late summer. Even more, slime play is known to support stress relief as much as it does your imagination! Driven by a mission to provide reprieve from the chaos of the world and screen addiction, the brand has close ties to mental health non-profits and a dedication to inclusion as well as supporting neurodiversity through our experience and our workforce.

Position Summary

The Senior Operations Director will oversee all operations of half of the Sloomoo locations. In this role, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership of a large team daily to deliver an exceptional experience for our guests and “Sloomers.” The Senior Operations Director will be confident in managing people, projects, and budgets, and will know when to delegate and when to take ownership. They will bring a positive and empowering attitude to the team, and their motivating approach will ensure delivery of a high standard across the site. They understand branded experiences, the art of entertainment as the Sloomoo world is one that is activated by guests and interactions with the “slime tenders” they encounter. They are detail oriented with a keen acumen for visual branding that goes hand in hand with Sloomoo. They will be able to work with a range of different stakeholders, manage up to co-founders, work with a diverse team including one that is neurodiverse, champion of the Sloomoo causes and brand, and demonstrate flexibility and a proactive and diplomatic approach to problem -solving. The Senior Director of Operations will take the lead on the planning and delivery of work streams, the team of General Managers, and ensuring that the CEO’s are kept informed and involved in key decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Full P&L responsibility

  • Develop and manage multi million -dollar budget, forecast and profitability.

  • Manage and support local team leadership.

  • Develop, implement and enforce Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Ensure staff are following all Standard Operating Procedures, Opening and Closing Checklists, Brand Guidelines.

  • Actively develop and implement and maintain / update training programs and ongoing training initiatives.

  • Maintain brand integrity throughout the experience.

  • Operate multi million-dollar retail stores, develop planograms, manage promotions, signage, product placement, etc.

  • Support all operational departments to regularly review their working practices and seek improvements to reduce the likelihood of accidents.

  • Ensure all safety standards are met and up to date.

  • Create and lead quarterly committee meetings, attended by representatives of all departments.

  • Encourage collaboration among locale leadership to establish and promote best practices.

  • Support the control of labor spend to ensure we are hitting and exceeding targets.

  • Work closely with the marketing department - and other cross department collaborations - to support Ll programs, from experience to marketing to PR to brand collaborations to events, and so on. 

  • Provide a world class guest experience as evidenced by positive survey results - elevate the NPS score and understand the opportunities for optimization.

  • Provide an engaging and rewarding workplace for all employees with a competitive retention rate and proven promotion.

  • Meet P&L criteria & guidelines.

  • Creation and implementation of improvements for guest satisfaction, employee experience and revenue growth.

  • Data Driven - use data to drive all decision making - and hold teams accountable (from inventory to staff management to staff ratio based on ticket projections and planning in advance for high season moments).

  • Follow up regarding accident/ incident reports with documented follow through and resolution for each accident/ incident within 24 hours of the incident.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience of operational management within a guest-facing operation, ideally in hospitality

  • Budgetary and line management experience (essential)

  • Ability to prioritize the needs of the different departments

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Excellent communication skills and a friendly and approachable manner with staff from across the organization, ensuring good working relationships.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key consultants and contractors.

  • Ability to engage with colleagues in an amicable manner

  • Detail oriented, strong communication skills be it with team members and / or guests 

  • Energetic, perceptive, confident problem solver with a good sense of humor
