Purpose of Position:

The Sous Chef role, like Shy Bird, is multi-faceted and dynamic. From daily catering to full service events, to busy takeout and in house services; you will gain a vast array of experiences and knowledge working directly with our Culinary Director and Operations Manager.

The description below is for a Sous Chef, but everyone works side-by-side at Shy Bird. We believe in cross-training for all positions with an "All in All Day" that helps to grow and support a strong team.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee training and onboarding for new back of house team members
  • Contribution to a weekly schedule for back of house staff
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all menu items and diligence with quality control
  • Participation with training for all menu changes, occurring seasonally
  • Complete daily ordering
  • Accountability for consistent prep production and menu execution
  • Support, lead and oversee line during service. Includes line shifts as needed.
  • Oversee catering orders daily
  • Effectively communicate with Front of House managers about item availability, dish changes, and other operational items during service
  • Walk in management and organization with team support
  • Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation standards amongst the dish, prep, and line teams
  • Contribute to monthly inventory as directed by Culinary Director & Culinary Operations Manager
  • Daily prep list management in collaboration with the Prep Manager
  • Contribute to Shy Bird brand expression, digitally through social media and other platforms
