Job Purpose: The Head Golf Professional is responsible for the daily management and operations of the golf department. The Head Golf Professional is responsible for promoting the game of golf through leadership and an operational structure that provides a “first class” environment for our members and their guests.

The primary areas of oversight include:

  • Member Services & Programs
  • Team Management & Development
  • Golf Instruction
  • Operation & Financial Management

Job Summary:

  • Provide a personable and professional golf environment that is highly focused on always providing superior customer service.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and continuation of all golf programs at the Club including daily play, tournaments, clinics, lessons, programs, golf outings, etc.
  • Responsible for all daily golf operations at the Club: carts, bag drop, bag room, range, club repair, and golf shop.
  • Work closely with all departments including Greens & Grounds, Finance, Events, Communications, Food and Beverage, and Human Resources to provide direction and input on all matters relating to golf operations for their specific areas.
  • Work with Member Committees on executing the Members’ vision for golf programs, services, and tournaments.
  • Implement and represent SHGCC’s mission and values within the department.
  • Responsible for staffing the golf department appropriately.
  • Train, coach, mentor, inform, and make sure performance is meeting standards for all team members working in golf to continue their professional growth.
  • Provide lessons and instruction for members while working with the Director of Member Instruction to ensure valuable golf programs are being organized and developed for success.
  • Develop, implement and monitor the annual golf budget to achieve revenue and cost goals. Ensure that accounting functions and golf control practices are in place and operating to meet Club standards.
  • Assist the golf shop with keeping up to Club standards as well as working with the merchandiser to notify about golf industry trends.
  • Represent the Club in sponsored golf functions, with the approval of the General Manager/COO as time permits.

Education, Experience Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Class A PGA Member or Master Professional.
  • 5 years’ experience at a premier property.
  • Experience working with all genders and ages amongst the membership.
  • Outgoing personality with exceptional customer service, passion, leadership, training, and communication skills.
  •  Act as a role model for all team members by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all team members.
  • Experienced computer user including Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in other applications, i.e., Email, Internet, tournament, and database.
  • Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills.
  • Self-motivated with desire to promote and market.
  • Experienced in written and oral business communications.
  • Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations and marketing and business trends.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Must be able to lift 25 lbs., as well as sit/stand for extended periods of time. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, squatting. This position works outside regularly.

Work Schedule and Hours: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary based on business levels. Weekend work is required. Must be available to work additional hours as needed including peak golf season where work weeks can be 50-60 hours. This position is required to work all Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club holidays.

Pay Rate: This is an exempt position ranging from $150,000.00 - $160,000.00 annually. Varies based on experience.
