Self Help Services is Hiring a Business Development Officer Near Durham, NC

WHO We Are:

Self-Help started in 1980 with a focus on economic inequality, especially in communities that have faced systemic barriers in building wealth. At the core of what Self-Help does is a drive to create and protect ownership and economic opportunity. In other words, we’re committed to economic justice! Economic Justice means that all communities have the basic infrastructure they need to thrive, from high-quality schools to grocery stores selling fresh food resources that support opportunity at a neighborhood level regardless of demographics, income, or wealth. Since our founding, we’ve constantly sought to find new ways to pursue greater economic justice: from providing fair and affordable loans to working with partners to demand that lawmakers change unjust policies.

The Secondary Market team is responsible for a billion-dollar home lending program to make home ownership possible for low and moderate income families and investments possible for Self-Help through partnerships with banks, credit unions, CDFIs, and investors such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

We are seeking a Business Development Officer to join our Durham, NC team!

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Secondary Market Business Development Officer (BDO) plays a critical role in the organization’s national purchase program. This position will focus on the outreach to, and implementation of new partnerships with traditional lenders, CDFI institutions, and credit unions to build and maintain potential partners resulting in the expansion of Secondary Market lending opportunities.

Based on experience, the role may be filled at a more senior level.

WHAT You'll Do:

  • Establish, grow and maintain all aspects of externally-facing relationships with lenders (banks, credit unions, and CDFIs), loan brokers, and investors (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) in support of Secondary Market’s products and programs.
  • Assist in developing business development strategies designed to increase partnerships and ensure continued growth within our portfolio in accordance with Secondary Market goals.
  • Support new product development ideation, implementation and execution.
  • Support organizational strategies to increase mortgage, solar, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle lending.
  • Participate in discussions about Self-Help’s Secondary Market products through one-on-one meetings and presentations as well as participation in industry conference and meetings.
  • Document learnings from industry conferences and follow up on next steps in a timely manner.
  • Assist in analyzing and pricing purchases, researching other asset pricing, and supporting internal pricing tools.
  • Monitor market publications for industry or investor updates.
  • Coordinate the implementation of new programs and the onboarding process of lenders as well as maintain all lender, product and program documentation.

WHAT You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area or equivalent related experience.
  • 5 years business development experience related to home or consumer lending, preferably in the community development field.
  • Knowledge of the home lending and secondary market industry.
  • Strong relationship development, sales, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to build effective network of lending and CDFI partners that lead to increased portfolio holdings, while building long-term collaborative relationships with organizational allies.
  • Strong project management skills, including ability to set priorities and organize competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to present information in an effective manner.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Strong commitment to our mission – creating economic opportunity for traditionally underserved communities.
