Sedalia Town Hall is Hiring an Accounts Payable Clerk Near Gibsonville, NC

Position Overview: Provide financial and administrative support for the town. Verify invoices, process payments, reconcile expenses, oversee day-to-day financial transactions, and grant management for the town. The Accounts Payable Clerk operates under the direction of the Town Administrator. This person assists with the budget, interacts with the town’s accountant and auditor, and is responsible for keeping finance statements organized and accessible.

Job Duties:

  • Manage accounts payable
  • Completes monthly Paid Invoice Folder
  • Prepares & updates the check register
  • Assist with maintaining agreement documents involving payment of services
  • Purchases office supplies and event items
  • Prepares Travel Expense Forms as needed
  • Supervises the annual audit process and internal control procedures
  • Helps to administer the annual budget
  • Prepare financial reports needed for grant writing
  • Performs other financial duties as required
  • In the absence of the Town Clerk or Town Administrator, this person will greet visitors and answer the phone

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Office environment workspace.
  • Use of phone, computer, software, office equipment.
  • Climb, pull, and/or lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Able to operate computer and view computer screens for extended periods of time.
  • Hearing and vision correctable to normal ranges; the ability to adjust focus across a presentation audience.
  • Perform in-town and out-of-town travel for town business and to attend meetings.

Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

  • Thorough knowledge of the operations and procedures of municipal government, finance, and budgets.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, office management, and public speaking skills.
  • Maintain professional demeanor.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effectively collaborate with diverse groups, manage conflicts, and ability to communicate effectively with customers and management.
  • Capable of writing clear and concise reports.
  • Capable of negotiating contracts and agreements.
  • Make decisions based on standards set by the Town Council.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment (copier, scanner, computers, etc.).

Basic / Minimum requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), at least 3 years prior professional experience in a bookkeeping/accounting position with strong knowledgeable accounts payable procedure and practices, strong computer skills, strong listening proficiencies and ability to communicate professionally both verbal and written-to peers and public. A valid N.C. driver’s license is required. This position requires sitting, standing, walking, and/or stooping.

Preferred:

Accounts Payable Specialist Certification (CAPS)

Local Government, County, State finance experience

Associate or bachelor’s degree in finance

Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions:

This position includes professional duties requiring independent judgment. Must be trustworthy, respectful, ethical, with the utmost integrity. The Accounts Payable Clerk should possess great organizational skills and pay attention to detail. Must also have good listening skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Standard Office Hours:

Part-time (20 hours/week) typically Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 12 Noon or 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Town Council Meetings to present the monthly finance reports, and the annual overnight (Friday/Saturday) Town retreat.
