Background on the Seattle Skills Center :
The Seattle Skills Center is a half-day option high school that provides advanced Career and Technical Education courses at several locations around the district.
The Seattle Skills Center plays a crucial role in supporting students who may be relying on the classes and training we provide to stay on track to graduate or to prepare for college and career after high school.
Since we serve students from all over the district at several locations, and support district-provided transportation to increase student access, there can be complex and fast-paced logistical challenges on a daily basis.
Our diverse student population relies on us to help them access these programs that may be critical for their next steps in life after high school.
Location :
While the position will start out being located at the John Stanford Center for Educational Excellence (JSCEE), as the Skills Center grows and we explore new campus locations, the Fiscal Specialist may be located at one of our program locations, like the Skills Center building next to Washington Middle School where Auto Technology and Firefighting are taught.
Additional Responsibilities, Functions, and Duties :
Additional functions include some daily operations support, for example, assisting in tracking and supporting student transportation, answering the office phone, and checking the Skills Center email.
Due to the high number of grants and reliance on these funds for purchases of equipment, tools, materials, and other expenses, managing and tracking grant funds, making payments, and documenting expenditures effectively will be critical.
Similarly, the grant applications we complete to obtain these funds have tight deadlines and often require a team effort to complete, including data from previous grant expenditures, so being able to contribute to the successful completion of grant applications and required grant reports will be important.
Other tasks connected to the work of Skills Center Fiscal Specialist will be related to helping to create and manage contracts, leases, and MOUs and tracking deadlines and payments for these agreements.
Work hours and schedule :
Given that this is a .5 (half time) position, a weekly schedule will be determined by the principal after getting feedback from the staff member.
Seattle Skills Center classes are in session every school day from 8 : 50am to 3 : 15pm, and in the summer (typically the month of July) for similar hours.
The Skills Center office is usually open from around 8 : 00am to around 4 : 30pm. While it might be beneficial for the .
5 Fiscal Specialist to be available for 5 half-days, it may be possible to set up a schedule of two full days and one half day per week.
It is likely there will be opportunities for paid extra time, depending on budget and enrollment.
The job of High School Fiscal Specialist is done for the purpose / s of providing an array of fiscal services for the high schools funds, including building fund, ASB, all grants and endowments;
conveying and updating fiscal information; and ensuring that fiscal practices are followed and disbursement of funds are within proper and legal guidelines.
Directly supports the Principal on building funding budget.
Essential Functions
Assists budget committee in analyzing building fund (e.g. analyze past data, current needs, size of enrollment, staffing needs, etc.
for the purpose of allocating funding for school operations for the coming year.
Collects funds from classroom and student activities (e.g. lab fees, art fees, wood shop fees, workbooks, field trips, library fees, etc.
for the purpose of ensuring the accuracy and timely completion of transactions.
for the purpose of facilitating data entry during the school year.
Maintains financial records related to student activities and / or events (e.g. ticket sales, yearbooks, dances, fundraisers, club activities, student projects, etc.
for the purpose of ensuring completeness and availability of records and compliance with district policy and established regulatory guidelines.
for the purpose of providing services within established guidelines.
Monitors the Saal Hass school scholarship fund (e.g. auditing funds, evaluating matching programs, making bank deposit, paying bills, etc.
for the purpose of reconciling fund with the foundation and the school.
for the purpose of documenting activities, providing reference, conveying information, and complying with established financial, legal and / or administrative requirements.
OTHER FUNCTIONS :
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the High School Principal or his / her designee; works collaboratively with building staff and central staff; acts as a resource to staff, students, parents, funding source representatives, and the public;
some positions may have student helpers.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge is required to perform algebra and / or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and / or present information to others;
and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes : standard accounting / bookkeeping principles and practices;
standard office machines, methods and practices of office operations; and basic computer applications.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands : some lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling;

Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION :
High school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of college or business school which included coursework in accounting, bookkeeping and computerized posting and tracking.
YEARS OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE :
Four (4) years of work experience in accounting / bookkeeping, using a computerized system to track, post, reconcile, and run reports on account information.
SUBSTITUTION :
Additional years of qualifying work experience may substitute for the two (2) years of college or business school on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED :
Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), SAP and eSIS. REQUIRED TESTING :
