Who We Need on Our Team

Our Sous Chef is mission critical and plays a vital role in ensuring an exceptional culinary experience for our guests while also having the ability to rapidly pivot to changing conditions in a fast-paced environment. You may find yourself prepping recipes and menu items created by the Chef. This position is expected to meet or exceed expectations by consistently demonstrating sound decision making effective communication, and like it or not take an overall leadership approach toward ensuing the front of house can do their part.

This role manages leads the kitchen in the absence of the Chef and is responsible for, providing guidance, direction and aiding the team in delivering results. The list below is not designed as a full list of responsibilities, rather a general list providing your perspective and insights to what a day for you may look like.

Your Day-to-Day Routine (although no day is the same)

  • Develop new menu options based on seasonal changes and customer demand.
  • Assist with the preparation and planning of meal designs.
  • Ensure that kitchen activities operate in a timely manner.
  • Resolve customer problems and concerns personally.
  • Monitor and record inventory, and if necessary, order new supplies.
  • Provide support to junior kitchen employees with various tasks including line cooking, food preparation, and dish plating.
  • Recruit and train new kitchen employees to meet restaurant and kitchen standards.
  • Create schedules for kitchen employees and evaluate their performance.
  • Adhere to and implement sanitation regulations and safety regulations.
  • Manage the kitchen team in the executive chef's absence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time position requiring a varied schedule, and will include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Work hours for this position are dictated by business need.

The Skills You Need to Bring to The Table

  • Bachelor’s degree in culinary science or completion of vocational school in culinary arts.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and best practices.
  • Good understanding of MS Office and restaurant software programs.
  • Teamwork-oriented with outstanding leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
