JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are a private technology company that designs, develops and operates space camera systems. We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant to become a part of our innovative team. Under general direction of the Senior Accountant, the Staff Accountant performs accounting support in payroll.
Essential Functions
Maintains timesheet system for salaried and hourly employees in compliance with government contracting DCAA regulations for project-based time keeping, including being the main point of contact for all employees regarding timesheet questions, corrections and approvals.
Calculates and prepares in-house bi-weekly payroll; including reviewing, adjusting and approving individual timesheets for all employees.
Maintains various Excel spreadsheets to review labor hours, ensure proper indirect and direct project coding and create individual pay calculations, including overtime, double time and 7th day pay in accordance with State, Federal & company policies.
Prepares and distributes annual W2’s and W3’s and maintains employee payroll files and withholdings information.
Makes biweekly federal and state tax payments, garnishments and funds FSA.
Calculates biweekly 401(k) contributions, including employee deferral and employer contribution.
Prepares biweekly journal entries to record all applicable payroll and tax transactions, including preparing all backup required for audit documentation.
Termination payrolls and non-routine bonus payrolls.
Update and review monthly balance sheet reconciliation related to payroll G/L accounts.
Calculate employee time off balances, including vacation, holiday and sick time.
Biweekly data entry to update time off balances.
Non-Essential Functions
Performs other duties as required or requested which may become essential to this position.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 5 years of equivalent hands-on accounting experience.
Minimum of 3 years of experience processing payroll for an employer with 50 employees.
Strong knowledge of payroll taxation including federal and state payroll taxes.
Computer literate with advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and an integrated accounting software package.
Preferred Experience working with Infor Visual.
Experience with multi-state employers is a plus.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to remain in a stationary position operating a computer for prolonged periods of time, while handling multiple priorities simultaneously. Must be able to communicate clearly with a variety of people on a daily basis. Must be able to comprehend and communicate basic payroll concepts, and company and department policies and procedures. Ability to handle stressful deadlines on a reoccurring basis.
