Assistant Chief EngineerScope of PositionThe Assistant Director of Engineer is a hands on and administrative role responsible for the effective management and repair of all engineering related equipment and maintenance operations within the hotel. The Assistant Director of Engineer is responsible for the development of the Engineering Team and staying abreast of compliance regulations and procedures in the field of Engineering, as required for hotel standards. This position also provides oversight to the daily operation of the engineering department, contractors or other vendors doing business for the Engineering Department. Schedule RequirementsThe operation is 24 hours a day 7 days a week, inclusive of all holidays. While the company will make every attempt to create a work and life balance, all exempt team members may be required to work extended shifts and additional days based on business demands. Working more than eight hours per day and more than five consecutive days as needed is an essential job function for all exempt roles. Travel may be required and may include some overnight stays. All exempt team members should be responsible in scheduling their time off. Key ResponsibilitiesEqual time will be spent hands on performing repairs or preventive maintenance activities and performing, managing and leading in administrative rolesEnsure full compliance with local regulationsPerform daily inspections around the hotelDiagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment within the hotelEnsure good relationships are built with internal and external customersMaintenance of all hotel fixtures and fittings to ensure they are in safe condition and act when any unsafe situations ariseImplement energy conservation and other “Green” programs for the property to minimize expenses and reinforce our industry leading sustainability profilePerform special projects and other responsibilities as assignedIdentify and introduce environmentally-friendly systems and equipmentMonitor Key Performance Indicators for the Engineering Department and take corrective action, as required, to improve equipment inventory, product quality, productivity, and other objectivesMonitor Engineering Team Member related activitiesSupervise day-to-day engineering department operations and associated team membersDelegate and assign work assignments to all disciplines. Required Job Knowledge and SkillsSkilled and Knowledgeable in building trades.Solid knowledge and skill in the safe use of hand and power tools and other materials required to perform repair and maintenance tasks.Safely perform highly complex repairs of the physical property, electrical, plumbing and mechanical equipment, air conditioners and refrigeration- ensuring all methods, materials and practices meet company standards and Local and National codes - with little or no supervision.Display advanced knowledge of all engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance, energy management, and other systems, including devices that interact with such programs.Experienced with the operation of auto motion systems, fire alarms and other building electronic systems. i.e. BMS, Lighting Controls, HotSos, Life Safety Monitoring & AlarmKnowledgeable in reading and understanding plans and specifications.Must be familiar with all Massachusetts plumbing, electrical and HVAC codes.Proficient, at an advanced level, with computers and relevant computer programsCommitted to delivering a high level of customer serviceStrong leadership skills and previous experience of Supervising or Managing a teamExcellent grooming standardsFlexibility to respond to a range of different work situationsAbility to work under pressureAbility to work on their ownPositive attitudeGood communication skills QualificationsExperience:5 years’ minimum experience in building trades or Hotel (Hotel experience preferred)One year as Assistant Director of Engineer or 3 years Supervisor/Lead ExperienceProficient in Microsoft Office products (including Microsoft Project Manager)Licensed in at least one skilled trade i.e. Electrical, Plumbing or HVAC-R Education:High School diploma, general education degree or international equivalent required.College degree or equivalent work experienceTrade school certificate(s) with accompanying work experience Language Skills:Fluency of the English language is required (read, write, speak)Must be able to listen to, read and/or write instructions, memos, short correspondences, and messages. This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the person occupying this position.
