Job Duties

  • Focus on authorizations for specialized programs such as Advanced Interventional Therapies or Unitized Transdisciplinary Care (UTC).
  • Initiate and manage authorization requests with insurance companies and government payers, ensuring all necessary documentation is obtained for processing.
  • Communicate with payers regarding patient grievances, collect and submit responses in a timely manner.
  • Obtain prior authorizations promptly from various insurance companies and notify relevant staff once approvals are obtained.
  • Monitor and follow up on outstanding authorization requests, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Handle any discrepancies or denials of prior authorizations, collaborating with other team members and departments to resolve issues.
  • Analyze and interpret data to provide accurate information to insurance companies.
  • Collaborate with the Patient Support Supervisor to optimize processes and address complex authorization cases.
  • Stay updated on insurance policies, regulations, and industry changes related to specialized programs.
  • Provide training and guidance to Patient Support Specialists I and II, sharing expertise and best practices.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Participate in meetings and committees related to specialized programs, providing insights and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of prior authorization or medical billing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD, and insurance billing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with insurance companies and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with fax machines, scanning equipment, and other office tools.
  • Clinical knowledge and understanding of specialized programs like Advanced Interventional Therapies or Unitized Transdisciplinary Care (UTC).
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance policies and requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle complex authorization cases.
  • Leadership abilities to provide guidance and training to other team members.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
