Salary Range $101,400 - $201,400 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. What Your Job Will Be Like We are seeking an experienced R&D Statistician to join our Statistics and Data Analytics department to perform and lead others in performing statistical analysis and methodology development on our highly dedicated and mission focused team. We inform the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data to help Sandia implement its mission. The selected applicant will engage in project leadership, participation, applied research and development, instructing, mentoring, and collaboration in the global security branch of our organization's portfolio. Statistical areas of emphasis in our department include: design of experiments, statistical quality control, probabilistic modeling and computer simulation, statistical model calibration, analytics, statistical learning, inverse modeling and prediction, reliability and maintainability analysis, margin and uncertainty analysis, and metrology. On any given day, you may be called on to: * Conduct and handle technical work and lead interdisciplinary teams in developing and implementing innovative statistical solutions to help tackle the most exciting National security problems. * Collaborate on and lead multidisciplinary teams to provide statistical expertise on data collection and analysis, methodology development, and applied statistical research. * Work with global security partners in areas such as nuclear forensics to fulfill mission requirements and help mentor and coach junior staff in these areas. * Inform efficient use of resources and smart data collection for physical test data and/or computer simulated data through Experimental Design. * Quantify and interpret uncertainties arising from stochastic variation and/or lack of knowledge in a variety of practical problem settings. Qualifications We Require * Master's in Mathematics or Statistics plus eight (8) years' experience in statistics/data analysis or; * PhD in the above fields plus four (4) years' experience * Demonstrated knowledge of global security areas such as nuclear forensics * Demonstrated experience in: * Leading multi-disciplinary teams and working independently * Growing and mentoring staff * Knowledge of R or equivalent programming language with statistics packages * Current DOE Q or DOD TS clearance Qualifications We Desire * Outstanding communication skills with a track record of building and maintaining collaborative and customer relationships * Experience paving new paths for research and development and taking steps to acquire appropriate funding and support * Educating staff in statistical topics * Delegation of project needs to staff based on their interests and technical expertise. * Experience working with global security mission partners * Track record of professional service (e.g., technical reviewer, conference organizer) * Critical analysis skills and detail oriented * Ability to prioritize, manage, and complete multiple projects within appropriate scope and timeframe About Our Team We are one of 5 departments in the Statistics and Human Systems group and primarily focus on Sandia's nuclear deterrence and global security mission areas.
