The Salvation Army USA Southern Territory is Hiring a Human Resources Generalist Near Chattanooga, TN

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a HR Generalist located in Chattanooga, TN. Job Summary: Serve as the human resources liaison for the area command and report accordingly to the Area Commander. Recruit and staff during regular and peak seasons. Administer employment practices, policies, and procedures; maintain personnel records and worker’s compensation claims. Administer personnel policies and procedures in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Employee Manual and standard human resources operating policy and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal employment regulations. Compile, submit, and maintain appropriate personnel records according to the Divisional Headquarters. Build effective working relationships with all departments to assist in developing staffing solutions to meet the changing business and staffing needs appropriately. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources. Knowledge of labor laws and ability to interpret/enforce the same. Ability to effectively develop staffing plans and job descriptions to meet the changing business and program needs. Ability to interview, screen, and select qualified applicants to fill open positions. Ability to organize, maintain, and secure personnel and payroll records effectively. Ability to interpret and enforce the Worker’s Together Employee Manual. Ability to manage human resources functions that build effective employee relations. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Ability to prepare human resources records and reports accurately and timely. Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language. Ability to perform mathematical calculations with accuracy. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to employees requiring assistance. Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources or a related field and Five (5) years of experience performing human resources and administrative work. OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certification in Human Resources is preferred. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light (less than 25 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Light mobility: duties are usually performed by a combination of standing, walking, and primarily sitting. Work is performed in a typical office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
