Respite Camp Program Coordinator

Pay Range: $18.77 - $21.93 hourly

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision of Mental Health Supervisor Mobile Response and Stabilization Services), works directly with Family Services, Supports Coordination staff and families to assists consumers with all aspects of respite camp, including internal (CMH) authorization, camp registration, paperwork completion/submission, transportation coordination, crisis intervention at Camp Connect Hartley, and other duties as assigned pertaining to camp implementation. . This position will be knowledgeable about and actively support culturally competent recovery-based practices; person centered planning as a shared decision making process with the individual, who defines his/her life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals; and a trauma informed culture of safety to aid consumer in the recovery process.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Work with case managers and support coordinators notifying all families of the availability of camps.
  • Contact all contracted camp providers to obtain W2’s and copies of liability insurance to provide to the Finance Department.
  • Attend all staff/department meetings each year to review camp procedures and provide staff with any new changes.
  • Initiate authorization process through Sentri (internal clinical authorization program) including coordination with case managers and support coordinators on appropriate Individual Plan of Services (IPOS) updates and active consumer files for each camper.
  • Contact the various provider camps to determine dates, times, and types of camps available for the season.
  • Create camp schedule for the season through the above information.
  • Administer registration of camps through collection of all completed registration materials; submission to appropriate camps; tracking of all registered campers for each dated camp including attendance; single point of entry for all camp; questions or concerns throughout camp season.
  • Be the point-of-contact for all camps in case of a behavioral health crisis that may occur (i.e., consumer having behavioral issues at camp) to help alleviate or eliminate camper expulsion.
  • Ensures consumer’s rights are respected, even though closely monitored, and treats them in such a way that enhances self-esteem and instills confidence.
  • Attending overnight camp at Camp Connect Hartley as a member of the camp staff. This includes two overnights and three days at camp.
  • Maintains accurate records regarding services provided on behalf of consumers receiving services at Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority (SCCMHA).
  • Coordinate with the Finance Department the rates for each camp and provide them with the information needed to enter in the rates for each camp.
  • Adheres to the mission, vision, core values and operating principles of SCCMHA at all times.


INCIDENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Performs various administrative functions such as preparing paperwork, registrations, phone calls and computer authorization procedures.
  • Coordinates with local camps and other community organizations that may provide services to our consumer base.
  • Handles other incidental tasks as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT:

Works in administrative office coordinating respite camp registration and oversight of camp season. May also work in homes of consumers/families to gather necessary information/documentation for camp participation. Close contact with consumers/families that may have communicable disease and consumers/families who may be hostile, aggressive and potentially violent. Requires travel to multiple locations, sometimes in bad weather.

Works variable hours, days and/or shifts that are based on the season of camps and consumer demand.


QUALIFICATIONS
:

Education:

Currently enrolled in college in the programs of social work, teaching, psychology or human services field preferred.


Experience:

Life experience with children and adolescents in home or in other volunteer or work situation (e.g.: parent, grandparent, youth ministry, youth group leader in Scouts, YMCA, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, camp counselor, day care center staff, foster parent, classroom aide, foster grandparent, direct care worker in child caring institution, lunchroom aid, etc.). Experience with children and adolescents living in environments of social deprivation or with emotional and behavior problems required. Experience with social problems including child abuse and neglect, alcohol and drug abuse and domestic violence would also be desirable. Various experiences will be surveyed and rated for relevancy to position.


Licensure and Certifications:

Must have a valid Michigan Chauffeur’s license and maintain an excellent driving record.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Typing skills and keyboard proficiency and computer literacy required.
  • Ability to function independently without immediate access to supervision and to respond to crisis with calm and good judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately in verbal and written tasks.
  • Ability to empathize with and communicate with individuals from all social economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle individuals who may be distributive or potentially violent.


Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Hearing acuity to converse in person and on telephone.
  • Visual Acuity to observe consumers behavior, read and proofread documents and use CRT.
  • Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity to write and to operate standard office equipment (PC, Keyboard, Copy Machine, Fax Machine, etc.)
  • Ability to lift and carry files and supplies at least 20 pounds.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with leadership, employees, consumers and the general public.
  • Analytical skills necessary to conduct research, analyze, and interpret complex data and identify and solve problems by proposing courses of action.
  • Ability to plan short and long range and to manage and schedule time.
  • Ability to handle stress in meeting deadlines and dealing with large numbers of employees and/or consumers.
