Azure Infrastructure Engineer 

The Azure Infrastructure Engineer will be designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based solutions. This position is a part of our Infrastructure Team and responsibilities span both on-premises infrastructure with a focus in Azure Cloud expertise. Your expertise in designing, implementing managing, and optimizing Azure solutions will play a crucial role in our success, as you adhere to industry best practices and drive robust and reliable outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, manage, and optimize Azure networking solutions:
  • Develop network architectures and design guidelines for Azure environments.
  • Implement and manage virtual networks, subnets, and network security groups (NSGs) in Azure.
  • Configure Azure Virtual Network Gateways and VPN connections for hybrid connectivity.
  • Optimize network performance and troubleshoot network-related issues.
  • Design, implement, manage, and optimize on-prem networking solutions and infrastructure:
  • Implement secure connectivity between on-premises and Azure environments.
  • Manage local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), including VLAN segmentation.
  • Design, implement, manage, and optimize Azure server environments:
  • Azure Virtual Machines (VMs) and Azure App Services.
  • Implement scalability, availability, and disaster recovery strategies for Azure VMs.
  • Configure monitoring, logging, and security for Azure server resources.
  • Optimize cost and performance with Azure Reserved Instances
  • Evaluate workload requirements and recommend the appropriate Azure Reserved Instances.
  • Monitor and manage Azure Reserved Instances to ensure cost savings and performance optimization.
  • Design, implement, manage, and optimize Azure storage solutions:
  • Design and implement Azure Blob Storage solutions for data storage and retrieval.
  • Configure storage replication, access control, and data encryption.
  • Optimize storage performance and capacity utilization.
  • Leverage VMware technologies.
  • Integrate Azure solutions with existing VMware virtualization infrastructure.
  • Implement hybrid cloud architectures using VMware solutions and Azure

Documentation and Training:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures. Provide training and guidance to team members on design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, security, and operations, to ensure alignment of infrastructure with organizational goals. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Document and resolve incoming change requests and issues.
  • Contribute to and maintain system, installation, and configuration standards and procedures.
  • Comply with internal and external security controls and procedures.
  • Approach technical issues with a "root cause discovery" approach.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Experience and expertise in designing, implementing, managing, and optimizing Azure server and network solutions.
  • Experience and expertise in designing, implementing, managing, and optimizing on-prem server and network solutions.
  • Proven proficiency in deploying and managing Azure virtual machines (VMs) and virtual machine scale sets, including resource provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Azure storage services, including storage account creation, access controls, data migration, and replication strategies.
  • Strong understanding of Azure infrastructure as a service (IaaS) concepts, including availability sets, virtual machine extensions, custom images, and virtual machine backups.
  • Familiarity with Azure Reserved Instances and the ability to optimize resource usage, minimize costs, and manage reservations effectively.
  • Experience with Azure Active Directory (AAD) and Azure RBAC (Role-Based Access Control), including user and group management, application registrations, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and conditional access policies.
  • Knowledge of Azure hybrid solutions, such as Azure Site Recovery, Azure Backup, and Azure File Sync, for integrating on-premises infrastructure with the Azure cloud.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to Azure infrastructure and services, with the ability to analyze logs, diagnose issues, and implement effective resolutions.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills to effectively convey complex concepts, designs, and implementation strategies to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow through skills.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience configuring Wi-Fi solutions.
  • Advanced system and server administration skills.
  • Proficiency in VMWare.
  • Experience administrating routing, switching, and fault-tolerance solutions.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing virtualization stacks.
  • Proficiency in firewalls and network security including NAT and traffic rules.
  • Proficient in the design and implementation of core networks for SAN and virtualization.
  • Proficiency with wireless systems and site surveys.
  • Basic understanding of VOIP phone systems.
  • Strong proficiency in IPv4 routing, and MPLS networks.

Proficient in dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, RIP).

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in IT or related technical field (i.e., Computer Science, Engineering) and/or 5 years IT support experience.
  • 3 years of experience in design, implementation, and support of high-availability systems.
  • Intermediate or advanced level technical certification(s) required.
