Rocky Mountain Deaf School is Hiring a SPECIAL EDUCATION SPECIALIST Near Denver, CO

SPECIAL EDUCATION SPECIALIST
2024/2025

Job Description & Qualifications

As a Special Education Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with diverse needs,
including those with autism, language deprivation, and executive functioning challenges. Your primary
responsibilities will involve collaborating with teachers and supporting staff to implement strategies that
promote academic, social, behavioral, and emotional growth for all students. From participating with the
education team to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) to creating a positive behavior support
system, you will be instrumental in fostering an inclusive learning environment where every student can

Salary Range: $56,638.00 to $76,935.00 (Salary is commensurate with educational degree and experience)
Bonus: 2nd year contract signing bonus available
Benefits: Full Medical benefits for employee (additional benefits available based on employee selection)
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Year: 198 days (includes 180 student contact days)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a valid License issued by the Colorado Department of Education in Social Work, Special
Education, or Deaf Education with at least three (3) years of experience working with DeafDisabled

students. By no later than September 1st of the year hired

  • or ability to qualify for a license in one of the above fields.
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience including Literacy instruction
  • Excellent command of written English required
  • Excellent command American Sign Language required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of ASL / English bilingual philosophy and curriculum
  • Knowledge and ability to apply current trends and best practices in Deaf Education
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies to promote high level of student achievement
  • Evidence of data driven decision-making skills
  • Effective and positive interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop a strong working relationship and share knowledge and skills with teachers and

paraprofessionals

  • Ability to structure time and manage multiple priorities

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Providing direct support to students in developing executive functioning skills through one-on-one and
small group instruction.
  • Assisting in working with students with autism and those who are language deprived, offering tailored
interventions and accommodations to meet their unique needs.
  • Facilitating small group and whole class push-in and pull-out sessions to support behavioral needs and
social-emotional learning.
  • Offering strategies and resources to support teachers in fostering executive functioning skills within
their classrooms.
  • Collaborating with the Occupational Therapist to implement sensory supports and classroom
accommodations.
  • Staying abreast of current research and best practices in special education.
  • Supporting teachers by providing access to relevant resources, strategies, and interventions for diverse
learners.
  • Leading the implementation of a school-wide PBIS framework, fostering a positive and inclusive school
culture.
  • Utilizing the Social Skills Improvement System (SSIS SEL) to assess and enhance students'
social-emotional skills.
  • Collaborating with staff to develop and implement behavior intervention plans and classroom
management strategies.
  • Working closely with teachers to write Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and present levels
of performance (PLOP) as needed.
  • Attending parent-teacher conferences and IEP meetings to support collaborative decision-making.
  • Creating schedules accommodating various classroom needs and attending Instructional Leadership
Team meetings.
  • Developing scope and sequence, materials, and resources for students struggling to access the general
education curriculum.
  • Training and orchestrate the administration of the CoAlt state assessment
  • Communicating regularly with parents, providing updates on student progress and collaborating on
support strategies.
  • Offering family literacy support and workshops to promote home-school partnerships.
  • Attending parent-teacher conferences and IEP meetings to support collaborative decision-making.
