Description
The Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) seeks a Controller to provide vision, leadership and innovation in the oversight and direction of the Accounting, Budgeting, Treasury, Financial Reporting and Tax operations of the University and Seminary, ensuring excellence in service to all constituents. Supporting the CFO’s strategic work to ensure adequate resources to support the University’s and Seminary’s missions. Providing financial information as needed to executive leadership and the Board of Trustees. Developing, maintaining and evaluating a strong environment of internal controls, including documentation of policies and procedures.Annual audit oversight. Assisting the CFO with banking and treasury relationships. Hiring and management of the financial staff, including the Accounting Manager, Financial Analyst, and other positions as required. In addition to being involved in the day-to-day operations of the University, this position will oversee the completion of many of the annual projects and reports that enhance the financial operations of the University. Hire, manage, evaluate the Accounting Manager and Financial Analyst. Proactively develop staff through activities including, but not limited to, goal setting, performance appraisals, regular coaching sessions. Set tone for proactive, timely, high-quality work, delivered with accuracy, integrity, continuous improvement and excellent customer service. Coordinate preparation of annual and long-term operating and capital budgets, and associated forecasts, in conjunction with the CFO, President’s Cabinet, and Budget Advisory Committee. Prepare and assist with analysis and reporting to support the President’s Cabinet and Board of Trustees (including attendance at Board meetings). Prepare and oversee internal and external financial reporting to include monthly performance against operating budget, capital budget utilization. Develop, prepare and assist with other reporting including analyses of both historical and pro forma data, academic program contribution margin data, cost-benefit analyses of proposals, and resource utilization studies. Proactively monitor, report and forecast cash flow position and needs. Participate in maintaining banking and treasury relationships, with the CFO. Monitor compliance with debt covenants and other banking requirements d. Oversight of endowment and investment operations. Attend Investment Committee Meetings. Provide oversight for student aid drawdowns. Oversee preparation for successful and efficient external audits of the University, Seminary, Housing Development Foundation, Retirement Plan, NCAA procedures, charitable gift annuity portfolio, and others as required. Oversee preparation of the Forms 990, Forms 1099, Form 5500 and other tax compliance as required.

Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required. CPA, MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred. Minimum 7-10 years of experience in related roles is required. Not-for-profit experience is required. Higher education experience preferred .Thorough working knowledge of GAAP accounting related to not-for-profit organizations in the higher education environment. Knowledge of tax law (not-for-profit / higher education environment) is helpful. Strong understanding of computerized accounting systems, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database computer applications. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate cultural competence and must value the principles of diversity and equity.
The approved salary for this position is $84,000.00/Annually. Competitive salary is negotiable based on experience, skills, qualifications, education & training requirements.
