Job Description:

This position will provide direct support to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Code 34 Imaging & Electronic Warfare (I&EW) Team. Tasking will include development and creation of training curricula, lesson plans, and training aids in support of the Acquisition Engineering Agent (AEA) team for new and fielded Imaging (Periscopes and Photonics Masts), EW (BLQ-10 and Early Warning Receiver), and/or Radar (BPS-15/16/17) Systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop training materials that address multiple learning styles and modalities of instruction, including content, application scenarios, and assessments.
  • Ensure content is consistent with brand and team design standards: Provide constructive feedback to team members and incorporate feedback from Subject Mater Experts (SME) and team members.
  • Design and produce training tools, such as printable job aids and quick reference guides (supplemental learning materials).
  • Design and develop instructional approaches and/or strategies to meet training requirements.
  • Develop appropriate training objectives and test methods and design instructionally valid training materials.
  • Develop tests and visual aids, conduct training classes, and help develop criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities.
  • Ensure program consistency amongst materials, training delivery, and provide technical assistance.
  • Keep abreast of policy guidance and updates and manage the content updating process in collaboration with program specialists and other staff.
  • Develop flow diagrams and story boards.
  • May interact with the customer to ensure accuracy of instructional content in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Attend client meetings to track process design, requirements gathering efforts, and to know external stakeholders
  • Understand Navy process for establishing and implementing a new course along with development of courseware materials

Requirements/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related field; or 10 years equivalent experience.
  • Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating within a team of Trainers, Curriculum Developers, User Experience experts, Engineers, and Project Managers.
  • Candidates must be able to work independently, collaboratively as part of a team, and interface regularly with a wide range of client personnel.
  • Considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) of Submarine ES Systems, principally with the theory, technology, operations, and maintenance (preventative and corrective) of the AN/BLQ-10.
  • Clear understanding of the principles of andragogy, Instructional Systems Design, development management, evaluation concepts, verification and validation, and effectiveness processes as they relate to the development of training products and/or training courses within the U.S. Navy.
  • Ability to extrapolate requirements from multiple sources and consolidate into a single, comprehensive document.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and methodologies with a focus on user experience.
  • Seasoned professional with a full understanding and experience developing technical training curriculum, in compliance with U.S. Navy NAVEDTRA doctrine.
  • Familiarity with standard instructional systems development models and develop training products by applying Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate (ADDIE) methodology and the principles of Instructional Systems Design (ISD), Adult Learning Theory, and modern Instructional Strategies.
  • Strong initiative, willing to ask questions & do research.
  • Writing skills are required as well as proficiency with MS office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat and MS Project (or similar tracking software)
  • MUST be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and retain a DoD SECRET security clearance. An active or very recent (inactive < 2 years) security clearance is strongly preferred.

Additional Skills of Interest (not required):

  • Degree, certificate, or completed course work in one or more of the following fields: visual design, adult-centered education, instructional design.
  • Electronics Technician (ET-Comms/NAV)/ Information Systems Technician (IT-EW) (E-6 or above) with 15 years of relevant technical/tactical Submarine Imaging Systems experience, specifically with Photonics mast and variants.
  • Former Naval Instructor qualified, Certified as a Master Training Specialist (MTS).
  • Learning Management System (LMS) experience.
