Resource-Trac is Hiring a Data Center Technician Near Cheyenne, WY

Our Team is currently seeking a strong Data Center Technician to support both company-specific servers as well as data center buildouts at customer data centers. The ideal candidate balances strong technical hardware, physical network set up, and verbal/written communication skills, who are also are highly analytical with superior attention-to-detail, self-motivated, and a positive, humble ‘results driven’ attitude. This person will serve as a mentor and trainer to other Service technicians in the field. Technicians are also expected to provide feedback, create documentation on both technical and non-technical processes, and contribute to our knowledge library that can be leveraged by others, for example KB Articles, SOP, lessons learned, etc. Additionally, the Tech will be both internal and external facing with the ability to lead and drive initiatives as assigned to a conclusion.

What you’ll do:

Ideally, a candidate will be adept in both hardware troubleshooting, physical network setup, and communication skills. However, a candidate strong in one field will be considered if the individual has the aptitude and skills to become an expert in multiple areas.

Hardware Troubleshooting Related Skills

  • Great server hardware knowledge with a deep understanding of all component & system type failures
  • Proven RCA or Failure analysis history
  • Experienced in controlled experiments to determine the root cause.
  • Assist in conducting failure analysis on-field issues until the root cause is determined based on:
  • Controlled testing of suspect hardware, system, or firmware
  • Engagement of internal engineering departments and the customer
  • Proactively and reactively support field deployments globally by:
  • Maintaining deployment equipment, image, and software
  • Learning new products in the production or lab environment
  • New Product Introduction training for site leads and technicians in the field.
  • Assisting field technicians to resolve known and unknown issues real-time.
  • Assist in tracking server fleet health to investigate trends, new unknown issues, and validate maintaining client’s customer SLA.
  • Utilize Linux and Windows Command-Line to troubleshoot hardware.
  • Physical Network Set-Up
  • Network troubleshooting of Layer-1, Layer-2, Layer-3
  • Making, cleaning, or running cables
  • Cable management (labeling, dressing, and unintrusive)
  • Assist network admins in setting up switches.
  • Confirming connections both visually and virtually
  • Cable tracing
  • Port map updates
  • Communication, Foundational Skills, and Competencies
  • Setting up pre-work meetings to discuss requirements, equipment needed, expectations, and ensure everyone is in sync and everything is clear.
  • Daily status updates
  • Define, develop, and implement external and internal customer initiatives.
  • Proactively support field sustaining activities by
  • Developing SOPs, Knowledge articles, & guides
  • Conduct training on new issues/resolutions, new technical processes & new tools.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in the investigation of issues, RCA/FA documents, etc. is critical to this role.
  • Provide timely, detailed, precise, and accurate feedback to the Engineering teams on failures, serviceability of servers, and integration with the data center.
  • Pre- and post-work follow-up for projects.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 2 - 4 years of related work experience as a data center technician

High school diploma

  • Ability to independently and regularly lift items weighing up to 50lbs or in partnership for items over 50lbs in weight.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a local or geographically dispersed team environment.

Preferred:

  • 5 years experience
  • CCNA certification
  • MCP/MSCE certification
  • Scripting experience
