Position Description: Plumbing Service ManagerReports to: Director of Operations
OverviewThis position exists in order to achieve consistent operational excellence across the function by providing frontline coaching and guidance to the plumbing team. The Plumbing Service Manager will equip future leaders to grow their leadership acumen through their own modeling of humility, accountability, coaching, and targeted development. This role will also be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations, ensuring that promises made to our RHINOS, customers, and finances are achieved and delivered in accordance with our Identity Doc.
Essential FunctionsLeadership of the Plumbing Team
  • Consistently model the Identity Doc and be a “Cultural Ambassador” for the company 
  • Inspire and lead the team to develop their personal and professional character
  • Encourage your team to own the development of their technical abilities, operational efficiency, salesmanship, etc. Identify high-performers and develop them in preparation for leadership
Management of the Plumbing Team
  • Implement Management Processes (e.g., Management 101) to achieve and exceed Excellence, Quality, and Safety Standards
  • Maintain ideal optimization of your team’s schedule based on daily distribution of jobs and location and abilities of team
  • Oversee the timecards and PTO requests of your team
  • Maintain accurate inventory maintenance and stock
  • Consistently perform ticket reviews and correct any situations as is appropriate
  • Conduct regular 1:1s with your team and document their progress or lack thereof
  • Lead regular team huddles and modify subject content as is appropriate
Plumbing Team Operational Excellence and Adherence to Safety Protocols 
  • Maintain and moderate overall performance of the Plumbing Team
  • Maintain operational excellence in all duties performed and solve for when not attained
  • Avoid and mitigate against “Dents” and educate on avoidance of these in the future
  • Strive for and maintain vehicle and jobsite cleanliness for yourself and your team
  • Pursue efficiency as it relates to use of materials, time “on site”, and travel
  • Promote a “culture of safety” by modeling best practices and following safety and operational manuals at all times
Hitting Goals
  • Develop and execute a dynamic and developing action plan to accomplish revenue goals across major timelines and milestones
  • Ensure that the branch and team achieve the ideal gross profit margin

Key Performance Indicators 
  • The Plumbing Service Manager will ensure that their team of plumbers consistently achieves the following key performance indicators:
    • WOW our customers: Customers consistently receive exceptional service, effective communication, with their concerns addressed promptly and professionally
    • First-Time Fix Rate: Jobs and repairs are completed in as few trips to the customers’ home as possible
    • Complete services within optimal timeframes: Tasks are managed effectively, ensuring timely completion of plumbing services and repairs without compromising quality
    • Optimize efficiency and control costs: Tasks are completed efficiently by managing time and resources effectively, while ensuring high-quality workmanship with a focus on efficiency and cost control
    • Foster customer loyalty and referrals: Strong relationships with customers are actively being built, with an aim for repeat business and encouraging satisfied customers to refer our services to others
  • Operational efficiency and excellence: Improvement in operational efficiency, measured by reduced costs, increased productivity, adherence to safety standards and protocols, and streamlined processes, quality metrics, Go-backs, etc.
  • Branch performance: Achievement of branch-specific goals and targets, including financial objectives and customer service metrics.
  • Plumber Care: Ensuring productivity, engagement, and adherence to performance targets of plumbers in your care.
  • Team development: Succession planning, employee retention, and development of a skilled and motivated team.
Skills / Competencies / Experience Required
  • Experience: 5-7 years’ experience in plumbing industry preferred; Master Plumber’s License strongly preferred.
  • Proven leadership: Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role (1-2 years), demonstrating the ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
  • Industry knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the plumbing industry, including residential plumbing system construction, maintenance, and service.
  • Operational efficiency: Experience in managing and optimizing operational processes, ensuring efficient workflow, and meeting project deadlines. Knowledge of inventory management, logistics, and resource allocation is preferred.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making: Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to address operational challenges, resolve conflicts, and make sound judgments in a fast-paced and unpredictable environment.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers, employees, and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Performance Management: Ability to monitor and evaluate performance metrics, ensuring the team meets or exceeds key performance indicators.
  • Adaptability and resilience: Willingness to step out of the field as needed, as well as maintaining calm and composure while navigating a rapidly changing environment as various situations develop and progress amongst your team.
  • Foster a positive work environment: Ability to provide guidance and promote professional growth and development among plumbers (High EQ-style extreme ownership).
Physical Requirements
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment, crawling, bending, and standing for extended periods. Able to handle and install independently, with the help of a dolly, water heaters that can exceed 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in crawl spaces and attics.
  • Balance, dexterity, clarity of vision, and hand-eye coordination 
  • Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle at all hours of the day and in varying weather conditions.
Total Rewards
  • Salary (exempt): 40-55 hours/week expected for success
    • 75k - 90K starting range with a variable bonus
