The Girl Coalition of Indiana (IGC) is an unprecedented collaboration between six existing Girl Scout councils serving girls in the state of Indiana focused on building new and creative initiatives to expand Girl Scouting. Led by an Executive Director and a team of full-time, girl-focused staff across the state, the IGC will partner deeply with each Girl Scout council as well as youth-serving organizations and other partners to reach girls who need Girl Scouting most.

The vision of the IGC is that every girl in Indiana lives her best life physically, academically, emotionally, and socially. To work towards this vision, we have identified three bodies of work that the IGC will focus on: Understand the unique needs of girls in low-income communities, remove barriers that prevent girls in low-income households from benefiting from Girl Scouts, and become an integral part of the overall support system for girls within communities.

The Community Engagement Specialist develops relationships in regional communities to identify and co-create solutions which allow Hoosier girls to live their best lives physically, academically, emotionally, and socially. This position creates a network of inputs to inform solutions from girls, their families, and community organizations and also delivers solutions in order to maximize opportunities for girls.

The Community Engagement Specialist is part of a team of advocates across the State of Indiana working to increase impact of the Girl Coalition of Indiana, including extending the annual State of the Hoosier Girl report to local communities, testing and then scaling pilot initiatives, developing learnings and best practices for community engagement, and advocating for the needs of all girls with local decision makers. This role functions as a partner with the local Girl Scout council to expand access to Girl Scouting to girls from low-income or similarly underserved communities.

With a focus on sustainable community building and program implementation in partnership with the local council and other organizations, this role will:

This position functions in a hybrid model, with the majority of your time spent out in the community you are serving. Physical demands include standing, walking, and/or sitting for extended periods of time, moving around within an office environment to access equipment and conduct meetings, frequent communication with others, and the ability to move supplies or equipment up to 20 pounds occasionally.

Approximately 40-60% of your time will be spent in the community/county you are serving, connecting with girls and families, youth development professionals, educators, community members, and other key stakeholders.

About 20-30% of your time will be spent at the regional council office. There will also be some occasional travel to Indianapolis (5-10%) for training and statewide meetings.
