Organization Overview
The Hoosier Girl Coalition is an unprecedented collaboration between six existing Girl Scout councils serving girls in the state of Indiana. Led by an Executive Director and a team of full-time, girl-focused staff across the state, the HGC will partner deeply with each Girl Scout council as well as youth-serving organizations and other partners to reach girls who need Girl Scouting most.
Girl Scouts of the USA and the six chartered Girl Scout councils of Indiana are individual non-profit organizations founded in 1912 with a mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. As the largest girl leadership organization in the world, we see girls grow through their participation in our time-tested, evidence-based Girl Scout Leadership Experience and today, more than 25,000 girls in Indiana receive this experience through their local council.

Job Description
The Hoosier Girl Community Advocate (HGA) develops relationships in regional communities to identify and co-create solutions which allow Hoosier girls to live their best lives physically, academically, emotionally, and socially. This position creates a network of inputs to inform solutions from girls, their families, and community organizations and also delivers solutions in partnership with those youth-serving organizations such as education, religious, or other community-based entities in order to maximize opportunities for girls.
The Hoosier Girl Advocate is part of a team of advocates across the State of Indiana working to increase impact of the Hoosier Girl Coalition, including extending the annual State of the Hoosier Girl Report to local communities, testing and then scaling pilot initiatives, developing learnings and best practices for community engagement, and advocating for the needs of all girls with local decision makers. This role functions as a partner with the local Girl Scout council to expand access to Girl Scouting to girls from low-income or similarly underserved communities.

Responsibilities
With a focus on sustainable community building and program implementation in partnership with the local council and other organizations, this role will:
  • Recruit and serve new girls from assigned community in partnership with local Girl Scout council staff, achieving annual goals;
  • Distribute and engage in discussions with local community members and partners about the annual State of the Hoosier Girl report, identifying opportunities to improve circumstances for girls.
  • Represent the HGC and the Girl Scout brand in building relationships with local community partners, youth-serving organizations, and other community-based entities;
  • Lead community listening sessions regularly in partnership with researchers and other members of the HGC, developing a deep understanding of community needs and recommended solutions;
  • Test, iterate, and scale potential opportunities for girls in partnership with Girl Scout staff. This could include initiatives such as Cause Camps, micro-grants for community leaders, early childhood development engagement, and more.
  • Support the Executive Director in regional strategy implementation;
  • Lead and participate in regular professional development opportunities including training in topics such as DEI, mental wellness, and girl development;
  • Manage assigned financial resources necessary to accomplish assigned objectives;
  • Create and maintain all necessary program, outcomes, and financial reporting, communicating and providing regularly to HGC team to include Executive Director and Grant Manager;
  • Model behavior consistent with the mission and purpose of Girl Scouting;
  • Attend statewide conferences, trainings, or programs as necessary;
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience
  • Demonstrated success in applying positive youth development, trauma-informed care, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to youth programs or community building initiatives;
  • 2 years in youth development field;
  • 2 years in relationship-building experience with a variety of stakeholders;
  • 1 years professional experience in grassroots community building;
  • Expertise in community issues, community research, and facilitating community conversations;
  • Ability to develop strategies that are informed by data to achieve goals in support of local and statewide strategies;
  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, nonprofit management or other youth development related field; equivalent work experience considered;
  • Preferred understanding of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience;
  • Preferred understanding of community-based organizing and coalition-building;
Other Position Requirements
  • Must hold a membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenants of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
  • Must complete and pass a criminal background check.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally move around within an office environment to access equipment, conduct meetings, etc.
  • Ability to operate technology.
  • Frequently communicate with others.
  • May have to move supplies or equipment up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires reliable transportation.
  • Requires occasional overnight travel within the State of Indiana.
