Description

Are you someone that is motivated and passionate about changing the lives of others? If so, our client is searching for an energetic, go getter that enjoys building relationships with a strong skill set for developing and managing programs for our youth! If you are community driven, the Community Engagement Specialist is the right opportunity for you! Enjoy networking within the state of Indiana serving Henry, Wayne, and Fayette Counties!

Who We Are

The Girl Coalition of Indiana (Girl Co.) is an unprecedented collaboration between six existing Girl Scout councils serving girls in the state of Indiana focused on building new and creative initiatives to expand Girl Scouting. Led by an Executive Director and a team of full-time, girl-focused staff across the state, the Girl Co. will partner deeply with each Girl Scout council as well as youth-serving organizations and other partners to reach girls who need Girl Scouting most.

The vision of the Girl Co. is that every girl in Indiana lives her best life physically, academically, emotionally, and socially. To work towards this vision, we have identified three bodies of work that the Girl Co. will focus on: Understand the unique needs of girls in low-income communities, remove barriers that prevent girls in low-income households from benefiting from Girl Scouts, and become an integral part of the overall support system for girls within communities.

What You'll Do

The Community Engagement Specialist develops relationships in regional communities to identify and co-create solutions which allow Hoosier girls to live their best lives physically, academically, emotionally, and socially. This position creates a network of inputs to inform solutions from girls, their families, and community organizations and also delivers solutions in order to maximize opportunities for girls.

The Community Engagement Specialist is part of a team of advocates across the State of Indiana working to increase impact of the Girl Coalition of Indiana, including extending the annual State of the Hoosier Girl report to local communities, testing and then scaling pilot initiatives, developing learnings and best practices for community engagement, and advocating for the needs of all girls with local decision makers. This role functions as a partner with the local Girl Scout council to expand access to Girl Scouting to girls from low-income or similarly underserved communities.

How You’ll Succeed

With a focus on sustainable community building and program implementation in partnership with the local council and other organizations, this role will:

  • Represent the Girl Co. and the Girl Scout brand in building relationships with local community partners, youth-serving organizations, and other community-based entities;
  • Lead community listening sessions regularly in partnership with researchers and other members of the Girl Co., developing a deep understanding of community needs and recommended solutions;
  • Test, iterate, and scale potential opportunities for girls in partnership with Girl Scout staff. This could include initiatives such as Cause Camps, micro-grants for community leaders, early childhood development engagement, and more.
  • Recruit and serve new girls from assigned community in partnership with local Girl Scout council staff, achieving annual goals;
  • Distribute and engage in discussions with local community members and partners about the annual State of the Hoosier Girl report, identifying opportunities to improve circumstances for girls.
  • Support the Executive Director in regional strategy implementation;
  • Lead and participate in regular professional development opportunities including training in topics such as DEI, mental wellness, and girl development;
  • Manage assigned financial resources necessary to accomplish assigned objectives;
  • Create and maintain all necessary program, outcomes, and financial reporting, communicating and providing regularly to Girl Co. team to include Executive Director and Grant Manager;
  • Model behavior consistent with the mission and purpose of Girl Scouting;
  • Attend statewide conferences, trainings, or programs as necessary;
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
