Senior Water Resources Engineer
Rani Engineering has a great opportunity for a Senior Water Resources Engineer with a transportation drainage focus to join our team.
As a Senior Water Resources Engineer, you will lead hydraulic/drainage design modeling and analysis for transportation projects. You will be a member of our Water Resources Practice, leading all or parts of design projects, and providing direction to team members. The main focus of the role will be on transportation and roadway engineering projects. You will be expected to adhere to the highest communication standards with external clients and internal team members. You will serve as an ambassador for Rani Engineering in all professional settings. The right person will take a leadership role while collaborating with other PEs, EITs, and CAD technicians.

Your Impact
- Perform detailed design computations
- Perform preliminary layout, modeling and final design
- Research and prepare drainage reports, risk assessments, permits, and feasibility studies
- Lead water resources design tasks including modeling and plan preparation
- Prepare specifications and cost and quantity take-off estimates
- Provide oversight and QA/QC of drainage designs, models, plans, storm water pollution prevention plans, design of storm water facilities and BMPs
- Lead water resources tasks, ensuring that project deliverables are met, and ensuring schedule and budget expectations are adhered to
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and staff from various agencies.
- Mentor junior staff
Here’s what you’ll need
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior civil design experience
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, or ability to obtain your PE within 6 months
- Expertise in standard Hydraulic/Hydrologic modeling software (e.g., HydroCAD, HY-8, P8, MIDS, XPSWMM, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, Hydraulic Toolbox)
- Proficient knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, processes, and environmental permitting
- Well-defined knowledge and understanding of Stormwater Management, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Culvert and BMP design, SWPPP design, and Erosion and Sediment Control techniques
- Expertise with Bentley products (e.g., MicroStation GEOPAK, ORD, ProjectWise),
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
- Proven ability to successfully track and meet budgets and schedules
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Masters Degree in Civil or Water Resources Engineering
- Project Management experience
- Experience working on Department of Transportation Projects in the Midwest
- ArcGIS coursework or experience
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D
