This position requires one full year of graduate follow-up services to students once they exit the program.
Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing counseling support, advocacy, and guidance to members of the YouthBuild program to assist them in dealing with their academic, personal, legal, and social service needs, especially those needs that interfere with their ability to meet the program requirements and ability to reach their personal and professional goals.
  • Assess the mental health of YouthBuild participants and assist with finding internal or external resources to meet their needs as necessary.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to YouthBuild participants and develop a case management strategy to improve retention, member participation, and personal growth while in the program.
  • Advocate and build collaborations with human services agencies including health, court, and criminal justice systems to resolve issues facing young adult participants.
  • Maintain member case files (both electronically and on-site) and record all student contact weekly in SalesForce and MIS systems.
  • Meet regularly with YouthBuild staff to guide best practices and approaches to effectively support and expand the personal growth and leadership skills of young adults in the program.
  • Oversee program orientation for new participants and ensure that all intake paperwork and assessments are completed promptly.
  • Responsible for leadership development activities, as defined by the Program Director, and ensuring that the leadership development philosophy is being carried out by program participants.
  • Create opportunities for alumni gatherings or other activities that create and foster opportunities for peer support and further education or training to help graduates make successful transitions.
  • Submit accurate monthly and quarterly reports and monitor support services to ensure participants are on track to meet personal and professional goals.
  • Facilitate weekly check-in sessions (discussions) or support groups as necessary.
  • Identify, organize, and expose program participants to cultural, political, and social events or activities.
  • Make home visits, as appropriate, to assess and support the participant’s needs.
  • Recruit, onboard, and supervise social work intern(s).
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • LMSW (Licensed Master of Social Work) with SIFI certification is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with young adult populations.
  • Must be comfortable working with the unemployed/under-employed young adult population.
  • Understanding of the issues facing young people in the community where the program is located and a willingness to learn from young people.
  • Ability to engage and build collaborative partnerships with other organizations as necessary.
  • Ability to relate well with others, a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate discretion.
  • Proficiency with various computer programs (Microsoft and Google Suites) and willingness to learn new ones in particular using virtual platforms (Zoom, Teams) to provide services.
