Queens Community House is Hiring a Beacon Director Near Forest, NY

Status: Full-Time

Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000 annually

Schedule: Mon- Fri 12P – 8P or 1:30P - 9P with morning availability for prep, meeting, and training time, potentially Saturdays 9:30A – 5P. School Holidays, School Recess and Summer 7:30A – 3:30P or 10A – 6P

Queens Community House (QCH) provides networks of programs for children, youth, and, older adults throughout the diverse population of Queens. Beacon Community Centers are collaborative school-based community programs serving children age six and older, and adults of all ages. Beacon operates M-F from 1:15P-9:15P. Saturdays from 8:30A – 4P, and during school holidays, school recesses, and in the summer from 7:30A to 6P. The BD’s schedule varies based on program needs. Our Beacons guide participants in building both positive social connections and a sense of community, exploring their interests and their passions, becoming life-long learners, gaining meaningful experiences, developing the skills and the mindset they need to succeed in their educational and career settings, and in becoming active participants and leaders in their communities.

The Beacon Director (BD) reports to the QCH Director of Beacon Services. The BD is responsible for all operations of the Beacon Community Center. The BD leads the program’s operationalization of QCH’s Mission, Vision, and Positioning (MVP), and of a positive community and youth development framework and culture.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintains effective systems and approaches to ensure the program’s adherence to all policies, guidelines, and contractual requirements of our org (QCH), our funders (DYCD, foundations, etc.), our regulatory agencies (DOH, DOL), and our DOE partners
  • Ensures accurate and timely input of all attendance, data, and reporting in agency and funder databases
  • Regularly review data to inform program priorities
  • Leads or supports the planning, facilitation, and development of special events (quarterly culminating showcases, annual health fairs, parent orientations, etc.), regular meetings (advisory council, staff meetings, etc.), and professional development opportunities
  • Maintains and develops collaborative relationships with the host school’s administration and teachers, fellow QCH Beacon Unit Leadership team members, other agency colleagues, as well as all relevant internal and external stakeholders (funders, participants, parents, community board, DOH, neighborhood organizations, partner organs, etc.). Leverages these relationships to accomplish program and agency goals
  • Represents QCH in the community through outreach and attendance at meetings
  • Is responsible for monitoring staff attendance and hours, and for approving timesheets for payroll processing
  • In coordination with the Director of Beacon Services, ensures appropriate spending, proper accounting controls, timely payments, petty cash utilization and monthly reconciliation, and other fiscal responsibilities related to the program’s budget
  • Serves as a senior leader within the Beacon Unit and the Youth Services division as a whole, and fills in as needed
  • Attends and sometimes facilitates regular QCH, DYCD, Beacon Unit, and other external meetings.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies ensuring proper protocols, documentation, and follow-up, as well as assessment and when necessary- adjustment of protocols, procedures, and expectations
  • Performs conflict mediation and crisis intervention as needed
  • Oversees sub-contracted and co-located programs, referral linkages, and reciprocal agreements.
  • Is ultimately responsible for the program registration process, staff files, participant files, pre and post-testing, and other necessary documentation
  • Ensures the above-mentioned are properly completed, organized, and filed accordingly for audit and storage purposes
  • Maintains timely and consistent communication with supervisor, direct reports, school administration, program staff, funders, colleagues, and other key stakeholders. Regularly checks and responds to email requests, phone calls, and messages, with a quick turnaround time- particularly for time-sensitive matters
  • Completes other duties and leads special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree required with a preference in Social Services, Social Work, School / Public Health, Education, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory and management experience developing and implementing youth and community development programs
  • Demonstrated competency in program outreach and retention; performance-based contracting (DYCD preferred); budgeting; and compliance with state and city child care licensing procedures (NYS OCFS & NYC DOH preferred)
  • Ability to obtain appropriate clearances and meet NYS School Aged Child Care Program Director requirements
  • The ability, technology, and internet access to meet both in-person and remotely
  • Must be available to work events during the evenings and weekends

PREFERRED skills/experience/qualities:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
