ProTransport-1 is Hiring a CCT RN - Critical Care - Full-Time or Part-Time Near San Francisco, CA

Position: Critical Care Registered Nurse

Reports to: CCT RN Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; Non-Union

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the CCT Manager, the CCT RN works with the vision, direct leadership and motivation necessary to operate in a high-quality critical care transport team. Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls and delivers high quality patient care and customer service within the prescribed scope of practice, established protocols and company policies. Makes or approves all decisions requiring interpretation of clinical delivery and company policies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients and other
  • persons in a position to understand care requirements.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to
  • patients, friends, and families.
  • Promote patient awareness by establishing patient care goals, teaching patient and family in
  • regards to illness or disease process, treatment rendered while in the care of the CCT team.
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; making or recommending necessary
  • adjustments by collaborating with team members and multidisciplinary members; staying current
  • with CCT guidelines and required in-services, training and staff meetings.
  • Define nursing/paramedic/EMT practices by encouraging and supporting quality improvement efforts.
  • Ensure continuity of services while adhering to all laws, rules, regulations, policies and
  • procedures as they pertain to the CCT Program.
  • Represent organization by establishing and maintaining relationships with outlying hospitals.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops through the
  • review of professional publications and by benchmarking state-of-the-art practices.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with our partner hospitals as well as
  • other specialty transport teams.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the CCT Director on pertinent issues.
  • Maintains through familiarity with treatment protocols, response requirements and quality
  • assurance procedures in system in which assigned.
  • Maintains awareness of any and all changes in the system components and company policy.
  • Maintains the level and type of certification consistent with performing tasks in the system to which assigned.
  • Complies with all state, and company requirements for operation of motor vehicle.
  • Operates a company vehicle in accordance with company policy and safe practices.
  • Develops ability to quickly and safely locate addresses through knowledge of number systems and street layouts.
  • Ensures that unit remains in a state of readiness in terms of mechanical reliability, medical supply and equipment, cleanliness and appearance standards.
  • Completes all appropriate documentation as outlined in company policy.
  • Attends all CCT team meetings.
  • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with allied health and public safety personnel.
  • Maintains a professional appearance by adhering to hygiene and uniforms standards.
  • Ensures EMT partner maintains the same standards.
  • Reports all problems and unusual occurrences immediately to the CCT Director.
  • Monitors performance of EMT partner, corrects errors as necessary, provides training and feedback.
  • Evaluates performance of EMT partner and submits written reports as requested by management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be currently licensed by the California Board of Registered Nurses with no violations or restrictions.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a critical care environment (ER, ICU) in a large tertiary care facility that provides high acuity patients with a wide range of diagnoses.
  • One year of experience in a critical care transport environment (air or ground) preferred.
  • Must be currently certificated in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
  • Must possess a valid and current California Driver’s License.
  • Must be independent and assertively take on challenging responsibilities and hold self ultimately accountable for results and performance.
  • Must have superb diagnostic and clinical skills and able to obtain an excellent history, perform an extensive physical and formulate a treatment plan while including the team members.
  • Has extensive knowledge of the uses, dosages and side effects of medications as they apply to different disease states, and able to assess clinically whether or not the medication is effective.
  • Promote team spirit and work collaboratively with others on the medical team.
  • Must have excellent multi-tasking skills. Prioritize and perform a variety of concurrent tasks with
  • minimal direction.
  • Must have excellent, in-depth knowledge of physiological functions and processes as they relate to issues of patient care.
  • Display professionalism, compassion and sound medical practice when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve unusual problems and give articulate direction.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Works independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas.
  • Able to read, interpret, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions.

Education Requirements:

The individual in this position must possess the following education requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in a critical care environment (ER, ICU) in a large tertiary care facility that provides high acuity patients with a wide range of diagnoses.
  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • CEN/CCRN certification.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation and pre-employment medical examination, which includes drug and alcohol screening.
  • Must be available to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends, holidays and additional shifts as needed.
  • Able to rotate shift assignments as needed and/or required based on operational need.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift 35 pounds in each hand to transport equipment from ambulance to location of patient
  • Ascend and descend stairways carrying 35 pounds in each hand to get to patient location to provide treatment
  • Lift (with assistance) a 75 to 150-pound oxygen cylinder into the ambulance
  • Conduct patient care tasks while stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
  • Communicate verbally to patients, dispatchers, physicians, and coworkers in transmitting and gathering information
  • Hear information transmitted verbally by phone or radio
  • Adequate vision required to be able to read information from printed sources and computer screens, as well as color vision and fields of vision to perform job functions
  • Ability to drive
  • Hands to finger, feel and administer patient care duties, as well as heavy computer usage
  • Must have adequate hand and finger dexterity to grip and hold both large and small items
  • Must have adequate hand and arm strength to grip and lift heavy objects
  • Must be able to tolerate work in an outdoor environment (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
