Tenure-TrackPosition in Engineering Technologies and Applied Design

The Engineering Technologies and Applied Design (ETAD)department at Berea College is seeking a dynamic faculty member for atenure-track position starting August 2024.

ETAD is animmersive and creative environment that provides students with theunderstanding and skills to address a wide range of real-world problems.

Ourcoursework balances theory with hands-on application and utilizes a range oftechnology in well-equipped labs.

In ETAD, students integrate coursework across a range of fields - fromrenewable energy production to graphic design to product development andproduction.

  • In any given semester students may work to further our campus'smissions of sustainability and public service by working with community groupsto design and produce bee boxes;
  • develop and test low cost underwatersensors for coral reef restoration in the Caribbean; enhance the program'ssolar car by incorporating current developments in solar voltaic technology;

ordesign accessible wayfinding systems that confront spatial navigationchallenges.

Candidates should express interest in teaching courses where studentsdevelop a strong understanding of how iterative design can be used to addresscontemporary problems, with an emphasis on using computer modeling software todevelop, construct, and test physical prototypes.

The idealcandidate's primary responsibility will include the following two courses inthe ETAD program : ETAD 130 : Design and DocumentationETAD 330 : Advanced Design and Prototyping

Both coursesfocus on parametric modeling, iterative design, and prototyping. In thesecourses, students utilize CAD / CAM software as a tool to address design andproduction challenges.

Experience with CAD / CAM software packages and rapidprototyping equipment is required.

In additionto the preceding description, ideal candidates would be expected to participatein the department's core courses, electives, and advanced offerings.

This mayinclude areas of future curricular growth in Automation / Robotics and IndustrialDesign.

Thedepartment is also in the process of preparing for a new academic building. Thefuture colleague would assist the department in the development of neweducational / laboratory spaces.

They would have access to a multitude ofdepartment tools and dedicated equipment funding. Successful candidates willalso have opportunities to explore other teaching / research interests throughoutthe campus.

Teaching experience and / or industry experience is alsoappreciated. Most importantly, given the nature of technology, colleagues areexpected to participate in the continued development of content, curriculum,and pedagogy.

Ideal candidates would embrace this practice through professionaldevelopment and active participation in the evolving fields.

A terminal degree in Engineering, EngineeringEducation, Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, Industrial Technology,Manufacturing Technology, Technology Education, or other closely related fieldsis required.
