We currently have an opening for a Director of Innovation. This is a key position that is recognized as a critical function for business success and will be responsible for leading the development and design of our analytical products. This role will also be supervising engineering and quality staff; prioritizing, organizing and monitoring workflow, and delegating tasks accordingly.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of mechanical, electrical, software, and quality engineers with a hands-on involvement to develop sensors, analyzers, and software applications.
  • Partner with CTO to lead the product roadmap for new technology and innovative ideas for a portion of our Industrial products. 
  • Develops, deploys, monitors and measures internal design standards within all engineering subgroups with a focus on maintaining high quality and repeatable manufacturing.
  • Responsible for the specifications compliance per applicable industry standards (FM, ASTM, ATEX, CE, etc.)
  • Supports the deployment of Epicor’s ERP system within the Engineering group to include an appropriate ERC (Engineering Revision Control) process, documentation and QMS.
  • Works closely with sales to develop solutions for product gaps and support sales as needed.
  • Manage internal design reviews and participate in design reviews with customers and key stakeholders.
  • Ensures final output of product designs are functional, cost-effective, and meet customer and industry requirements, including VAVE projects and compliance standards.
  • Prepares, communicates, and monitors individual workloads to optimize and adhere to project schedules as well as capacity management of the engineering staff.
  • Develops department best practices and standard operating procedures to include integration and hand-off of designs to procurement and manufacturing departments.
  • Provides technical expertise on strategic initiatives.
  • Provides periodic market trend insights and reports to senior management any pertinent findings to ensure continued alignment with department and company goals.
  • Monitors vendor products and the latest cutting edge technologies.
  • Promotes good communication and engagement amongst internal and external teams to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Continuously collaborates with internal and external teams to achieve shared objectives.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned from time to time.

Requirements

Qualifying Attributes and Skills:

  • Bachelor‘s or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent. 
  • PhD in a science disciple preferred.
  • 7 years of professional experience designing and developing analytical instrumentation.
  • 5 years of experience in a management leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with engineering principles and procedures that apply to sensors and systems designs.
  • Experience with programming languages and software programs relevant to the industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge and in depth understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.
  • Must possess in-depth understanding in one or more engineering fields (i.e. electrical, software, mechanical)
  • Familiarity with industry policies and procedures to ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in ANSI/ASME and ASTM standards
  • Proficiency in 8D, RCCM, and Quality Management Systems
  • Experience with ISO 9001 (ideally the 2015 standard)
  • Relevant experience in the following:
    • Design for Manufacturing
    • Sensors and Analyzers
    • New Product Development
    • Root Cause Analysis Countermeasures
  • Work in establishment of engineering design standards and re-use recommendations.
  • Ability to read, interpret and comprehend engineering prints / assembly drawings / BOM’s.
  • Understand the engineering and quality management system processes to ensure compliance to ISO regulations.
  • Must be able to take on more complex and advanced engineering projects while balancing managerial responsibilities.
  • Extensive cross functional team experience including technical and non-technical work.
  • Professionalism, with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven leadership skills and success managing a team.
  • Strong problem solving and time management skills, a results-oriented work ethic, and ability to work alone with limited direct supervision.
  • Willingness to assist with tasks, even when the work is out of the scope of responsibilities.
  • Fiscal and financial awareness is a must. Attention to cost and expense matters.
  • Customer-oriented, with the ability to represent the company and present engineering ideas and designs to non-technical audiences.
  • Must have core values, exceptional work ethic and the ability for continuous self-improvement.
  • Ability to attract and retain engineering talent.
  • Ability to Travel 20-30%
