Description

Job Summary:

Lead groups of Electrical Construction Technicians and Wireman in both mechanical and electrical tasks on substation equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation. Oversee all onsite electrical substation construction activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to install electrical apparatus according to manufacturer’s and clients’ specifications.
  • Oversee electrical substation project installations, alterations, additions, and/or repairs at any given time.
  • Onsite supervision of construction projects with anywhere from two to ten Construction Technicians and Wireman.
  • Assigns project tasks and ensures that materials, tools, labor, and equipment are scheduled in a timely manner to meet project schedules.
  • Interacts with the customer to make sure project is on schedule and their needs are met.
  • Responsible for reviewing all project documents, plans, managing construction activities, resolving any problems that arise on the job, coordinating sub-contractors, and maintaining project schedules.
  • Position walks down projects and provides feedback to sales and management team for proposals.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality standards of Premier Power Maintenance.
  • Performs daily job hazard analysis, participates in weekly safety meetings and trainings, and promotes company safety policies.
  • Actively participates in hands on construction activity when it is necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiar with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.
  • Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Extensive knowledge regarding the installation, configuration, and wiring of all types of electrical switchgear and equipment in all voltage classes.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints, diagrams, manuals, and schematics.
  • Must have intermediate PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, while utilizing excellent judgement.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to be consistently on time for daily work assignments, meetings, training, etc.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills to include on time reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and any other documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to supervise projects and manage a project budget.
  • Demonstrates the responsibility required to keep tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean and organized condition and up to date with service and calibrations.
  • Must be willing to take calls and give technical advice outside of the normal workday.

Work Environment:

  • Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of Indianapolis, IN. 
  • Corporate business hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm, but depending on the scope of works hours outside of business hours will be required.
  • Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations.
  • Must be able to work overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, stoop, climb, shovel, and work at elevated positions.
  • Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
  • Must be willing and capable of working with hands and working in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 pounds.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or Military experience is preferred but not required.
  • Higher Education, Industry Certifications, or Substation/Lineman Apprenticeship is preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of 8 years’ experience in electrical substation construction and leading projects.
  • Project management experience and be able to support management in the planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, education verification, motor vehicle report, physical abilities test, an approved hair and urine drug screen, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must have or be willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weight up to 26k lbs. CDL license preferred.
  • Must be willing to obtain a company paid TWIC, OSHA 10 hour, NFPA 70-E and, CPR training.
