PPT is seeking a System Safety Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama with a strong understanding of integration of system safety principles as part of systems engineering process including Model-Based Systems Engineering.

Description of Responsibilities for the System Safety Engineer:

Primary responsibilities will include identification of system safety process requirements; review and evaluation of architecture and design concepts; technical evaluation of safety analyses/documentation; preparation of safety evaluations and risk assessments using variety of analysis techniques including, but not limited to, FHAs, PHAs, O&SHA, FTAs, FMEAs, and safety assessment reports; definition of safety review criterion; definition of methods and process for capturing review evidence; definition of safety requirements; integration of system safety and systems engineering requirements processes using DOORS and Model-Based Systems Engineering tools, and active participate in IPTs, working groups, review panels, requirement and design reviews, and program reviews. Applicant must be able to apply system safety methodologies and experience to mechanical, electrical, and avionics/software-based systems and equipment; define design and operational approaches for the solution of non-compliance or unacceptable risk; and coordinate issue resolution with program management, and design organizations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for the System Safety Engineer:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related sciences and at least 3 years of system safety experience
• Experience in performing or evaluating system safety analyses and assessment for complex integrated systems
• Good communication skills in preparing technical reports
• Experience as an active participation in working groups and program and design reviews
• Must be able to travel (10-15%)
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the required level
• Must be a U.S. Citizen

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for the Safety Engineer:

• Knowledge and adaptability to SAE ARP4754 and ARP4761 assessments and processes
• Knowledge and adaptability to MIL-STD-882E analyses and processes
• Software and avionics-based systems; Understanding of software development processes including use cases and requirements, design documentation, and software test plans and procedures
