Description

Pope John Paul II Preparatory School seeks a passionate and dedicated choral director who feels called to inspire and empower students through the transformative power of music in alignment with the vision of Pope John Paul II. Pope John Paul II Preparatory School is committed to providing a holistic learning experience that nurtures the talents and aspirations of our students. By sharing and collaborating with colleagues in our vibrant and dynamic fine arts department, our ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in fostering musical excellence, creativity, and community engagement within our school.

We consider all candidates who apply for the position. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Previous experience directing high school choirs or similar ensembles
  • Proficiency in vocal pedagogy, music theory, and choral conducting techniques
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and community stakeholders
  • Commitment to fostering an environment encouraging students to pursue excellence in the arts, especially choir
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively

Responsibilities will include:

  • Choir Leadership: Lead and direct choirs in rehearsals, performances, and competitions, ensuring musical excellence and artistic development. 
  • Curriculum Development: Develop a comprehensive and engaging choir curriculum that aligns with state standards and fosters the growth of students' vocal skills, knowledge of music theory, and performance techniques.
  • Individualized Instruction: Provide personalized instruction and guidance to students, offering support and encouragement to help them reach their full potential as singers and performers, especially when preparing for external auditions.
  • Repertoire Selection: Select a diverse and appropriate repertoire for performances, considering students' skill levels, interests, and cultural backgrounds. The inclusion of sacred music is encouraged.
  • Performance Management: Organize and coordinate choir performances and concerts both within the school community and at external venues, showcasing the choir's talents and achievements.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the fine arts department, including choral and instrumental music teachers, drama instructors, and visual arts educators, to facilitate interdisciplinary projects and performances.
  • Student Engagement: Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel empowered to express themselves creatively, collaborate with their peers, and develop a lifelong appreciation for music.
