Located in Western Pennsylvania since 1946, PTC awards associate and bachelor’s degrees and certificates in these areas: Business, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Design and Engineering Technology, Healthcare, Nursing, Information Systems and Technology, Trades Technology, and Energy and Electronics Technology. The PTC college experience is empowering and culminates in internships and clinical rotations for on-campus, degree-seeking students
Purpose of Job:
This position provides public safety services to the College community. The primary objective of the Public Safety Officer is to provide a safe and secure environment for all members of the College community by means of an alert and vigilant prevention patrol. This position requires carrying a firearm. A Public Safety Officer patrols assigned areas of property used, owned or occupied by Pittsburgh Technical College.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate degree preferred but not required in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or appropriate related field.
  • Act 120 Training - preferred
  • Act 235 Certification - required
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certifications must be up to date.
Primary Duties:
  • Patrol campus and leased property by vehicle and foot
  • Respond to calls for service
  • Respond to Fire alarms
  • Respond to emergencies on campus
  • Patrol both on and off campus buildings to assure proper security of the same, including, but not limited to, locking and unlocking of facilities; deterring theft, vandalism and loitering; and of general buildings and grounds security issues.
  • First responder when medical situations occur
  • Reports observed irregularities such as presence of unauthorized people, fire hazards, leaking pipes, unsecured entries and faulty equipment.
  • Writes reports and maintains accurate records of incidents they encounter.
  • Contribute to PTC's overall success by performing additional duties as needed
Experience Required:
  • Minimum of two years experience in law enforcement or security field
Additional Factors:
  • Must wear PTC Public Safety uniform; provided by department.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and car insurance
  • Must pass the PA Act 153 background check and motor vehicle check prior to employment.
  • Officer must have their own firearm
  • Designated Campus Security Authority
  • Additional qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have good vision, hearing, strength and agility
  • Must enjoy working with people and meeting the public
  • Personal characteristics require honesty, sound judgment, integrity and a sense of responsibility.
Work Schedule:
40 hours work week. Schedule will vary based on departmental needs. Schedule will require working evenings, weekends and holidays
Overtime will be required
