Summary/Objective
Seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and dynamic Director of Retail Services will be responsible for all Orlando Science Center retail buying, merchandising, inventory, and training and managing of retail staff. They will have an self starter approach to retail promotion and sales, great people skills, a love of customer service, keen eye for purchasing and merchandising and ability to show dynamic leadership to train and motivate staff.
Essential Functions
· Develop, plan, and implement a vision for retail, merchandising at the Orlando Science Center
· Manage all aspects of the retail shop operations including customer experience, presentation, purchasing, merchandising and inventory control.
· Create an inventory monitoring system and manage vendor and consignment relationships.
· Select vendors and merchandise for the gift shop including, but not limited to, negotiating merchandise prices and stock availability.
· Set merchandise sale prices for all products to ensure the goals in revenue, capture rate, margin and average sale met or exceeded.
· Work collaboratively with the VP of Operations to develop budgets and implement annual business goals, ensure inventory controls, reporting, and processing of sales and setting goals to keep revenue on budget.
· Prepare and approve purchase orders and invoices for submission to the Finance Department
· Create and manage a process for attending to the physical set up of the shop space, internal satellite locations (when needed) inclusive of the design and implementation of changing creative displays that promote/showcase merchandise.
· Manage opening/closing, merchandise changeover, supply ordering, POS systems and inventory management.
· Manages the POS system, responsible for creating necessary reports and signage as needed.
· Supervise retail staff and activities, overseeing disciplinary actions as needed in collaboration with Retail Manager and HR.
· Provide support and assistance as needed with scheduling and payroll administrative tasks.
· Assist in the hiring process including, but not limited to, resume review, interviews, and training.
· Develop and conduct retail operations training for existing and new hires to enable staff to provide exceptional customer services and sell merchandise.
· Monitor and execute inventory control initiatives such as physical counts and loss prevention programs.
· Develop and maintain a climate of achievement, engagement and foster high staff morale and team collaboration.
· Work collaboratively with the Marketing and Membership team to develop branded merchandise and to execute a 12-month promotional calendar.
· Collaborate with and assist other departments to develop, support and execute promotional opportunities and internal/external events.
· Ensure that the retail team acts with integrity and honesty in safeguarding POS locations and monies.
· Monitor visitor experience, proactively manage and resolve customer service issues/complaints/compliments via consistent solicitation of visitor feedback and suggestions.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
· Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience in retail management, museum, or attraction retail management experience a plus
· Experience & Certifications: A minimum of 2 years of experience in a high-volume retail / customer service industry.
· Strong retail sales background with inventory purchasing and merchandising skills.
· Strong organizational abilities, including prioritizing, diligence, shop aesthetic, planning and budgetary management.
· Initiative-taker, able to work independently and as part of a team and must have time management skills •
· Effective problem solving, critical thinking and multi-tasking experience is essential.
· Must enjoy and derive energy from meeting and interacting with customers.
· Must be able to maintain and model a calm demeanor during periods of high volume and continue to offer excellent customer service.
· Must be able to set priorities and follow and meet deadlines.
· Knowledge of point of sale and CRM systems, experience with Tessitura and Shopify a plus
· Accomplished user of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook PowerPoint and Excel on a PC platform
· Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and some holidays as needed.
· Ability and expectation to work onsite.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position is responsible for the hiring, training, and development of full-time and part-time staff members.

· This position is full-time and must be able to work weekends and after hour events as needed.
· Travel to attend conferences/training/deliver programs.

This position will be onsite 80% of the time.
