Oregon State University is Hiring an Orange Media Network (OMN) Video Reporter Near Corvallis, OR

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Video Reporter positions for the Orange Media Network at Oregon State University (OSU).
The video reporter is responsible for pitching, researching, and creating video news stories for The Daily Barometer, Beavers Digest, or DAMchic.
Pay Rate: Story and multimedia assignments follow a schedule:
  • $11 per listicle (less than 30 seconds; no interviews)
  • $38 per brief (30-45 seconds, 1-2 interview perspectives)
  • $53 per standard story (45 seconds, 3 or more interviews)
Position Duties
  • Gather, pitch, report and create video stories for Orange Media Network publications (Daily Barometer, Beavers Digest and DAMchic) as assigned
  • Shoot video for stories, including B-roll, interviews with sources and other content as needed for video story creation
  • Edit video and adds on-screen captions and graphics to enhance videos and user experience. Captions should be written clearly and in AP Style.
  • Creativity in encouraged. Videos are intended for various platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Instagram
  • Is able to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends and academic breaks
  • Remains objective and provides fair and accurate coverage
  • Attends all staff and team meetings as required by editor(s)-in-chief. Participates in readouts with editors to make any necessary revisions in style or content
  • Communicates any errors and corrections to editor-in-chief
  • Pursues news in a timely fashion
  • Shares stories on social media to reach audience
  • Cover breaking news as needed
  • Ensure all content strives to be representative of the myriad of experiences and identities of the OSU community through source selection, guest selection, topic selection and image selection
  • Pitches story ideas that have news values for the OSU community
  • Other duties as assigned by the editor
Communication
  • Respond to emails and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN
  • Ensure you are using, checking and responding to BaseCamp for project management
Leadership
  • Follow all OMN policies and procedures
  • Act in a professional manner at all times
  • Ensure all content strives to be representative of the myriad of experiences and identities of the OSU community through source, topic and visual selection
Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Is knowledgeable in news gathering and fact checking strategies
  • Is knowledgeable in Associated Press (AP) Style or willing to learn AP style
  • Is knowledgeable of the SPJ Code of Ethics
  • Able to meet deadlines
  • Is a strong writer, communicator and comfortable with public speaking
  • Is organized and reliable
  • Is experienced with giving and receiving feedback
  • Able to remain professional and calm when working with difficult individuals and situations
