Oregon State University is Hiring an Orange Media Network (OMN) Illustrator 2023 - 2024 Near Corvallis, OR

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Illustrator positions for the Orange Media Network (OMN) at Oregon State University (OSU).
The illustrator is part of the photo department and creates illustrations for editorial content as assigned for The Daily Barometer, Beaver’s Digest, DAMchic, Prism and other OMN mediums as assigned by the student leader of the respective medium.

Pay Rate:
  • Per piece: $48
NOTE: All positions and hours remain contingent on funding availability for the 2023-24 academic year
Position Duties
Responsibilities:
  • Pitches, accepts and delivers illustration ideas that have news values and engagement for the OSU community
  • Takes editorial illustration assignments to provide images to accompany print and online content for all OMN mediums as assigned
  • Produces fair and accurate illustrations that fairly represent the story and the people involved.
  • Meets editors’ standards for clarity, neatness, quality of writing and detail and other specifications
  • Incorporates feedback before deadline
  • Attends all staff meetings as required by editor-in-chief and designated editor
Communication
  • Respond to emails and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN
  • Ensure you are using, checking and responding to BaseCamp for project management
Leadership
  • Follow all OMN policies and procedures
  • Act in a professional manner at all times
  • Lead, critique and coach others to be their best
  • Ensure designs and content are centered on equitable representation and inclusion, with attention to impact on historically underrepresented and marginalized communities and constituencies
Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • Is knowledgeable and experienced in building and maintaining relationships with sources, stakeholders, partners, collaborators and the community
  • Must complete all elements of On-Boarding Curriculum
