Job Summary
The Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences is seeking a Clinical Pathologist. This is a part-time (0.20 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The Department of Biomedical Sciences, an integral component of the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine (CCVM), provides instruction to students in a professional veterinary medical program leading to a DVM degree, in MS and PhD degree programs, and provides diagnostic services through the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (OVDL). The OVDL is an AAVLD accredited and NAHLN-participating laboratory that handles samples from domestic animals from external clients and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, along with wildlife and managed/zoo collection animals.
The primary position responsibility will be provision of clinical pathology diagnostic services to the OVDL. This includes: cytology; review of hematology cases; review of clinical chemistry, endocrinology, coagulation testing and transfusion medicine test results; consultation on QC and sample submission/processing; and communication with colleagues in the OVDL, clinicians/staff within the VTH, and external clients (referring DVMs). The incumbent will also be required to engage in the OVDL quality program and participate in a team that helps maintain accreditation with the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD).
The incumbent will participate in the mentoring of clinical pathology residents, and will work closely with technical staff and student employees.

What You Will Need
  • DVM or equivalent.
  • ACVP or ECVCP board certification in Veterinary Clinical Pathology.
  • Ability to conduct self in a fair and helpful manner that treats people with respect and dignity.
  • Ability to contribute to a larger team, contribute to team’s success, and foster a team-oriented culture.
  • The ability to effectively communicate (in writing and verbally) with diagnostic lab clientele, veterinary, graduate, and undergraduate students, staff, and colleagues.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

  • Evidence of experience working independently as diagnostic pathologist.
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in pathology or a related discipline.
  • Experience in teaching and/or mentoring.
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
