Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Beaver Connect Peer Mentor for The Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) is seeking undergraduate student Peer Mentors to join the Beaver Connect program, which pairs a peer mentor and a faculty member together to serve as co-mentors for small groups of incoming undergraduate students. Selection & placement depends on how many incoming students sign up to participate. Hiring preference will be given to previous student participants in Beaver Connect, our partner programs, and those close to degree completion.
EOP and Beaver Connect are strongly committed to serving students who have traditionally been denied equal access to higher education, including Students of Color, first-generation students, and those with high financial need. Because OSU is a predominantly and historically white institution (PWI), it is especially critical that we center the experiences and needs of students and staff with marginalized identities, and that we provide comprehensive, holistic support that is specifically designed to meet those needs.
This recruitment will be used to fill teams working with groups of new first-year and new transfer undergraduate students at the Corvallis campus. Groups meet in person on or around the Corvallis campus during Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. We expect to fill up to 65 positions. This position is paid as a stipend starting at $185 per term.
If you have any questions or concerns about the program or your application, please do not hesitate to contact the Program Coordinator, Caitlin McVay (caitlin.mcvay@oregonstate.edu).
Position Duties
The expected commitment of 10-12 hours per term lasts for a full academic year (Fall, Winter, & Spring). Peer Mentors will collaborate with a faculty member to co-lead discussions with up to 4 new undergraduate students. Teams typically meet 5x/term for 1 hour discussions on navigating the first year, exploring opportunities, and envisioning a path to success. There may be additional hours required in the weeks preceding the start of fall term depending on team placement and/or training requirements.

Peer mentors are responsible for:
  • Making initial contact with teams
  • Scheduling team meetings
  • Keeping track of new student participation
  • Participating in training sessions and term check-ins with the Beaver Connect Program Coordinator
