Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Apparel Design Research Assistant positions for the College of Business at Oregon State University (OSU).

This is a part-time Research Assistant (RA) position for the Apparel Design Program. You will develop slopers, garments, and digital slopers for the Apparel Design Program to be used in future courses. This position will further develop your flat pattern, draping, and digital patternmaking skills.

The pay rate will be $15.20 per hour.
Position Duties
  • The Research Assistants will work together to evaluate and develop pattern slopers used by courses in the Apparel Design Program.
  • They will create garments of all existing slopers to evaluate the fit and make any needed changes.
  • They will digitize all existing slopers into Browzwear VStitcher and create digital garments on appropriate avatars for each sloper.
  • They will also develop any needed new slopers for dress forms used by the program.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have successfully completed DSGN 327 and DSGN 427 at Oregon State University with a B or higher and have a senior standing in the Apparel Design Program.
  • They must be knowledgeable in flat patterning, draping, Browzwear VStitcher, and sewing.
  • They must have knowledge of how to operate Milam 233 sewing machines and related equipment.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Applicants should be self-motivated, have a desire to expand their patternmaking skills, and be able to work in a group setting.
  • They should have a computer capable of running Browzwear VStitcher.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • Work a total of 5-10 hours per week on Sloper Development project as outlined by supervisor.
  • Work schedule and hours each week will be determined by the applicant.
  • Meet once a week for 1 hour with supervisor and the other RA to discuss project progress.
