The Surgical Assistant/First Assist ensures the operating room, supplies, and equipment are prepared in advance for the days’ cases and opened with sterile technique. Prepares for cases according to surgeon preferences. Assists the surgeon with field preparation, ensuring field remains sterile, passing instruments, retracting, safely assisting with position changes, suturing tissue layers and applying dressings to surgical wounds as requested by the surgeon.
