The Surgical First Assistant performs pre-operative and post-operative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. Works under the direct supervision of the surgeon to facilitate the surgical procedure. Being a Surgical First Assistant prepares and positions the patient for surgery. Ensures the operating room is sterile and fully equipped for the procedure. In addition, Surgical First Assistant provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation.
