What you’ll be doing...

Verizon Network Security is looking for a talented and motivated Network Security Engineer with a good understanding of routing protocols, switching, firewalls, scripting, automation tools, big data, machine learning, and related technologies. The Network Security Services infrastructure consists of several large scale networking, compute, and storage clusters that are used to analyze petabyte scale network and security event data sets for anomalous and malicious network activity to protect Verizon and its customers. Successful candidates will have responsibility for a number of the following areas based on the unique expertise that they bring to the project.

Responsibilities include: 

• Engineering and deploying appropriate network solutions for data center networks.

• Identifying technology gaps to lead in the design, architecture, and implementation of appropriate solutions collaboratively.

• Creating formal guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure smooth and error-free operations.

• Driving relevant, strategic solutions in a highly scalable environment.

• Maintaining high availability and performance of the data center networks, support infrastructure, and environment using various monitoring tools 

• Participating in capacity planning activities and identifying areas for improvements in managing network resources and inventory.

What we’re looking for...

You are accountable and follow through with a sense of urgency. Successful candidates will possess the following required qualifications.

• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience. 

• Four or more years or relevant work experience. 

• Experience with networking (especially Internet related protocols), and network and information security.

• Experience developing in a variety of programming languages, including three years of Python.

• Experience and understanding of basic relational and non-relational databases.

Even better if you have one or more of the following.

• College degree with a STEM focus. 

• Strong oral and written communication skills required for internal and external communication, at a range of technical and executive levels.

• Four or more years of hands-on experience working with internet-scale data sets such as Netflow, BGP, DNS, and IDS logs.

• Knowledge and experience in one or more of statistics, data visualization, anomaly detection, machine learning, and system administration.

• Knowledge of network-based, system-level, and application layer attacks and mitigation methods

• Experience with big data analytical tools such as Splunk, Elasticsearch, or Hadoop

• Experience with a variety of leading SQL and NoSQL technologies

• UNIX systems engineering expertise with a wide variety of UNIX variants

• Experience with VMware, Ansible, enterprise Internet firewalls such as Palo Alto, enterprise load balancers such as F5, NFS, Kerberos, LDAP.
