The hotel will feature 330 guest rooms, including 11 suites, four dining outlets, a spacious pool deck, retail, and almost 36,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting space with expansive views of the ASU campus and the Tempe cityscape. Whether you are looking for a destination for your weekend getaway, a meeting room or event space for a conference or wedding, or a night out at the multiple upscale restaurants, the Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU is sure to meet the needs of the most refined travelers.

Job Description

Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Director of Rooms to join the pre-opening team of our brand-new upscale hotel. Opening in the spring of 2023, Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU will provide Tempe with 36,000 square feet of event space and four new food and beverage outlets. Featuring a rooftop upscale restaurant and the largest ballroom in the area, we expect to provide tremendous options to our guests for dining, events, and entertainment.

So where does the Director of Rooms fit in? This role, budgeted to start 1/1/23, will be at the forefront of building a winning team and culture that consistently provides our guests with one-of-a-kind experiences. Providing sensational service and anticipating the unexpressed wishes of our guests is what we are working diligently to instill in our team. Having a Director of Rooms that is passionate about teaching others how leave our guests marveled is what will set us apart.

The Director of Rooms will lead the front office, housekeeping, and loss prevention departments in accordance with Omni standards. Our chosen candidate must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills and possess the ability to train, develop, and motivate associates at all levels. Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a best-in-class division of front office, housekeeping, and loss prevention professionals that produces market-leading guest satisfaction ratings.
  • Regularly monitor and produce constant improvement in guest experience satisfaction metrics.
  • Show year-over-year improvement in associate satisfaction scores throughout the division, while maintaining low turnover and high promotion-from-within ratings.
  • Maintain high visibility with associates and guests and respond to needs, requests, and escalations of customers, guests, potential guests, and internal associates.
  • Physically inspect all operational areas on a regular basis, make recommendations to department heads for areas of improvement, and follow through on areas of concern.
  • Ensure the quality and productivity of housekeeping functions that guarantee the cleanliness of all guest areas while ensuring that sanitation standards are met (Corporate Standards and Local Health Code Requirements).
  • Continuously evaluate the performance of the associates. Plan and coordinate training and development opportunities to ensure succession planning within the department and division.
  • Develop monthly forecast and annual budget; coordinate effective control of supply costs, payroll, and direct expenses.
  • Lead regular department meetings to encourage and promote communication and consistency in service.
  • Relay, promote, and enforce company policies and procedures to staff under his/her supervision.
  • Create a comfortable atmosphere that builds culture and promotes communication to encourage committed and loyal employees.
  • Oversee hiring and training programs for rooms personnel.
  • Responsible for corrective action regarding unsatisfactory performance throughout the department.
  • Respond to any reasonable task as assigned by General Manager and serve as an important part of the hotel’s executive committee.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience as a rooms leader in an upscale or luxury hotel, including experience as a department head in front office operations and/or housekeeping.
  • Additionally, must have previous experience in all areas of the rooms division and an associate or management level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management or equivalent training preferred.
  • Must have a proven track record of motivating managers and associates to meet and exceed goals and to provide the highest quality experience for our guests.
  • Strong understanding of forecasting, budgeting, scheduling, checkbook management, productivity, inventory controls, P&L analysis, and cost controls.
  • Strong computer and technical skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to track and analyze department turnover trends with demonstrated ability to identify and implement corrective action steps if necessary.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop associates at all levels, including mentorship and disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with other department leadership to ensure proper execution of events.
  • This individual must be willing to work flexible hours as needed during busy times and high-profile events.
  • Must have experience turning around guest concerns while maintaining a calm demeanor.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings, including sedentary seated computer work, standing for periods of time, and walking the property, and occasionally conducting work that includes lifting and moving objects of up to 50 pounds.

*This position is a full-time, on-site position with no work from home flexibility.
