Description
POSITION PURPOSE: This position assists in processing personnel and payroll actions, and performs a wide range of clerical tasks including verifying and auditing timekeeping records, maintaining accurate employee information, and assisting employees and related departments with general information requests. Will assist in additional accounting functions to include the auditing, disbursement, and reconciliation of assigned fund and fee accounts. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include, but are not limited to the following:• Maintains regular attendance at work and is consistently on time.• Must be able to be present at designated work site minimum of 40 hours per week, as established by supervisor.• As assigned and under direction of supervisor, prepares, completes, verifies, and files monthly payroll reports.• Processes personnel transactions in MUNIS payroll system.• Verifies new employee information and completes employee record set-up in MUNIS payroll system and time keeping system. • Tracks, audits, and corrects time sheets in coordination with timecard approvers to ensure accuracy of timekeeping records. • Assists in coordinating attendance at new hire orientation including communicating with supervisory staff and Benefits. • Maintains effective working relationships with County Payroll, HR, and Benefits departments to facilitate payroll activities.• Participates in accounting functions including preparing disbursement requests and writing and processing vouchers.• Regularly check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper coding.• Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep accurate financial records. • Develops and maintains effective reporting capabilities to create, run, and deliver information as scheduled and upon request. • Trains and effectively serves as backup operations cashier when needed. • Other duties as assigned.
Experience
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:• Possess two to three years of experience in a general clerical or administrative service and support capacity • Knowledge of day-to-day administrative procedures including maintaining files and processing paperwork and information.• Knowledge of payroll principles and practices including receiving and obtaining information to ensure accurate pay records.• Strong computer skills including MS Office, accounting/payroll software. Knowledge of MUNIS a plus. • Able to promptly assist employees and customer requests for assistance.• Strong communication skills including verbal and written comprehension and expression. Ability to convey information clearly.• Able to handle stressful situations with courtesy and tact. • Should have strong reasoning and critical thinking abilities to apply specific procedures and rules to identify appropriate solutions. • Strong attention to detail and requires being careful and thorough when completing work tasks. • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationship with others.• Ability to manage time to plan, prioritize, and complete work tasks in a timely fashion. • Willingness to follow the chain of command system of management system.
Education Required
Associates degree in accounting or finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and training. Experience in a high-volume payroll environment preferred. Experience of county government and /or a County Court Clerk’s Office experience is a plus.Openings: 1
